im building a new rig for a friend and was wondering which would be better for him P4 3.0ghz or AMD 64 300+. the computer is mostly going to be used for surfing the web and instant messaging. do you think it would be more future proof if he got the AMD as it is 64bit? but the the P4 would be better cause hes not going to be gaming any time soon adn its better for multi-tasking? am i right so what would you guys recomend. thx

vote for the P4... for multitasking

64bit computing won't be mainstream for a while. so u don't have to worry about future proof.

A second vote for a P4 3.0GHz hyper-thread LGA775 processor based system. It is a great general purpose processor at relatively low cost.

The 478 3.0E that I have is a little stressed during gaming, but it certainly shines in all other applications (also focus on the quality & quantity of the RAM).

Nothing is futureproof.

Krayzie135 - there are a ton of threads on this subject. Search is your friend....
