need help with eVGA nForce 680i LT with E6420

I have an eVGA nForce 680i LT motherboard with a C2D E6420 processor.

I've never overclocked a cpu before.

How much can I overclock without increasing voltage or having to worry about heat with the stock cooler? Basically I want a safe overclock.

PC: eVGA nForce 680i LT, C2D E6420, 4 GB Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 800, 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10, 512 MB XFX Geforce 8800 GT XT, 500 Watt Silverstone SST-50EF-Plus St50EF
 
Well, from searching around, looks like 2.8 Ghz is a good safe OC that shouldn't up my heat too much.
