Well as the Title reads I need a new card for the upcomming system.
So far it consitsts of an ABIT NF7-S Mb, XP2500 Mobile, and an water cooler setup.
Working on the Ram (1GB 3200) and HD's, just kinda stumped on which vid card...
I play games, so need something that will handle the new ones comming out, got about $200ish to spend.. Any advise will be helpfull....

For $200 the best card to get is the Radeon 9800Pro 128MB. Just don't get the 128bit memory version. Get the full 256bit version.

Thanks :)

Saw the 256mb version for $268, might save a bit more and just get that.
Thanks for the Quick response!

If you're willing to pay 268 for a 256MB version, you might as well fork out 32 bucks more so you can get the Geforce 6800: http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?Part_Number=128-A8-N343-AX

Keep in mind that this card is near bleeding edge, but it's only 30 bucks more than the 256 9800Pro you want to buy. Just think about it. ;)

It also comes with the full version of FarCry, a great game. Great deal. :)

I don't think with his processor that he would see a $110 difference between the 128meg 9800pro and the 6800, unless he plans on upgrading to a new board and processor in the near future, I would definitely go for the Hercules card posted, or the Sapphire 256bit 128meg card on Newegg. Not a bad price at all on that 6800 though!

Hummm.....

Time to Talk the wife into it....:)
Was thinking on the 5900, but the 6800 is just to good to pass, and the 9800 is also....Humm choices choices...:)

Definately 6800 for 300 bucks.

Btw, there is no perforamnce difference between a 128 or 256 megabyte 9800 pro. The card itself is too slow to utilize the extra memory (aka, at settings where the extra memory would be used, the card cannot run at playable framerates anyway, so you are looking at 10 fps (128 megabyte 9800 pro) or 15 fps (256 megabyte 9800 pro). Thus making the 256 megabyte version moot.)

He said he was willing to pay 268 bucks for the 256MB 9800Pro, so he might as well pay the extra 30 or so dollars and get the 6800. If he ever does decide to upgrade his processor in the future the card is more likely to be valid whenever that may be...

Yeah, but the 256mb isn't worth that much more money. The difference is negligable if any. If he wants bang for your buck for that processor, the 9800pro fits his needs perfectly.

That's only a 128mb 6900

if he is willing to spend $300, why not just save another hundred and get the x800pro?

j/k :D :p :)

Ok am ordering the 6800 here in the next couple of days, then just need the ram to complete the system....I know this isnt the right board for it but how is the 2500 mobile oc'ing? cooling isnt a concern as for the DD Water cooling. How far have you guys been able to push it?

it is one of the best overclocking cpu's ever! :p

No really, it will go about 2.3 ghz easy. with your cooling... about 2.5ghz.

have fun!

That is good to know...

But as someone said in this thread earlier would my CPU be the bottleneck with the 6800? If so would i be better off getting an 9800 pro? As for wife is letting me build this one and that's it till around the same time next year..:(

Your best bet is to find a 6800NU 128mb or 256mb, you will see a difference in games over the 9800pro, i wouldnt worry about a bottleneck, get whatever you can afford even if it means saving :)
