Hi, sorry if this a repeat question but I can't find a definitive answer. I believe my Socket A systems 6600GT is dying on me.
I'm also alittle confused about what the best bang for the buck AGP cards were/ still are ? Can someone inform me of what video card that I could get that's cheap ($40-75) that will be an upgrade from my current 6600GT .

My guess would be this 7600...

what is faster out of the x1650 and 7600GT ?

thanks

forget that crap. dont buy a new video card if your budget is less then $100.. especially agp stuff. look in for sale/trade and post a WTB: fast AGP card im sure youll find a great deal...

Are you saying that about the $100 budget because the HD3850 is the only new AGP card that's worth considering ?

$85 for that card isn't too good of a deal. He's saying that you could get MUCH better than a 7600GS for $100 used, like for example an x1950pro or a 7600GT.

I think a new card in that price range would be something like a HD 2600 Pro.

It's really time to consider getting a newer PC.

Did you look at my sig....

I just want a card to replace the 6600GT that's in my older Soket A computer. My S939 is doing just well for the time being.

Yeah I was gonna say this forum has a serious problem with this kinda stuff: Every time someone comes in here with "dead P3 graphics card, replacement?" everyone immidiatly screams "buy a new PC its time to upgrade".

Hold on there chuckey I've got a perfectly modern monster machine I just want to get this one running....

You might care to take a look at the GPU review superlatives page, granted its a little dated... so perhalps never mind. You can also take a look at the card comparison page to check out just how badly the X1950 pro destroys the 7800GS, amoung other things.

I think your best bet might be to look for an X1950 pro AGP on ebay. You should be able to find one for ~$100 and it will be a good size bump in performance from your 6600GT.

Here's NCIX's currently available AGP cards. Here's the same from Newegg. The egg has an HIS HD3850 for $140 after a $20 MIR.

It sounds like the HD3850 is the only card that should be considered to be bought retail then ? I thought there were a few best
bang for the buck agp cards towards the death of agp motherboards. I guess I was wrong. Okay , X1950 pro or HD3850, maybe used but I doubt it.

New X1950 pro

New HD3850

What card is faster out if these two? The HD3850 right ?
And Ebays prices are a joke. $170.00 is the cheapest I seen and I can get a brand new X1950 pro from a real store for that. I have to either find used, or go with something cheaper like nothing..........

The buy it nows on ebay are a joke. The normal auctions are fine. I got a X850XT for $63 (with shipping)

And yes, the 3850 will rape the X1950 PRO .

Just got a used 6800 Ultra off ebay for $50 shipped with box. I'd look there instead of buying a retail card for full price. If you want a 6800 thats in my sig pm me, looking to sell.
