So a friend came to me the other day with a question, and I admit, I had no answer. He wants to build a new Intel/nVidia rig(one he has now is an old 1.6GHz P4 400MHz fsb, GeForce4 4600) and asked me which chipset was best for him. Since I really know nothing about Intel chipsets(sorry, I have AMD), I figured I would ask all you nice, knowledgeable folks at [H] :D .

I had looked into the P965 chipset, but says it can only do DDR2-800 RAM with 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 timings(I found him 2GB DDR2-800 3-3-3-8 RAM).

He has decided(I think he's decided) on a C2D E6600, and a single 8800GTS(no SLI for him) and he says he doesn't OC at all. What would be a good chipset for a decent gaming/multimedia rig? Looking for stability and performance here.

Thanx in advance all

EDIT: I read through the FAQ at the top of this section and found some outdated info in it. For example it says that the 975 chipset does not support higher than DDR2-667, but I am finding Mobos on newegg that say they support DDR2-800(same chipset). Also, what chipset supports the higher RAMs like DDR2-1066 and higher, they all seem to say they top out at DDR2-800
