Net Send on an Apple?

Hey,

Windows has Net Send..sending messages to another on the same network. I was wondering if there is a way to do it on an Apple (OS X) without downloading any external program?

I don't think so. as far as I know windows being the office creature it is, net send was made to let the whole office know about updates and what not.

Mac OS X has built-in functionality to send messages to other users through the samba utilities, but as far as I know, it cannot recieve them.

Yes it is. It is what it uses for windows sharing.

I can't find a command to send a SMB message like you want.
You can take a look at all the SMB commands with "apropos smb" in terminal.
