Simple question (I hope!) GIGABYTE MOBOs now seem to be in their '45' stage:

Are the following products compatible with each other?

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128346

with

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017

BTW, I've already purchased the following:

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122&Tpk=F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

LITE-ON Black 20X 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner

ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W ATX12V Power Supply 90V~265V (Auto Adjusted) UL, cUL, TUV, CB

Antec P182 Gun Metal Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

This is going to start as a Windows System but I'd like to eventually evolve into a dual-boot Win/Mac video/TV capture system with additional hard drives.

Feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Uh, dude, the new Intel "standard" is now X58... and Gigabyte has plenty of boards for that chipset, as well as a few for the AMD chipsets.

But which features do you need in a motherboard? I ask because I agree with HardwareGuru.

I apologize for not being as up-to-date to mention X58 as opposed to 45. All I'm asking is whether or not the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard is compatible with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor.

If there is an X58 GIGABTYE MOBO that is compatible with the Intel Q6600, then would you be so kind as to make a recommendation? I'd like to get something with IEEE 1394, good audio and PCI express. Price range is $150 to $200 US.

Thanks again!

Yes the EP45-DS4P is compatible with the Q6600. However I do not recommend going with that motherboard due to the fact that the GA-EP45-UD3R and GA-EP45-UD3P offer many of the same features as the DS4P but are considerably cheaper

No X58 motherboard, made by Gigabyte, Asus or whoever, is compatible with the Q6600. The X58 chipset is for LGA1366 socket, a completely different and incompatible socket for the Q6600's LGA775 socket.

Thanks for the advice Danny.

I've decided to go with the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail ($117 after rebate) - looks like it will do the job just fine. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...A-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-N82E16813128358)

Juat to make sure, is the G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122&Tpk=F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ) also compatible with the GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 MOBO?

Thanks again!

P.S. @HardwareGuru, thanks for the combo tip but unfortunately, I already purchased the Q6600 a few weeks ago.

P.S.S. Sorry for being such a noob, but you've got to start somewhere and this looks like the place.

Stay away from the 500GB 7200.11...mine is becoming flakey as well after a month. If the problem was isolated to a few people, then sure. But when many are experiencing the same thing, it becomes difficult to not deduce that the problem lies with Seagate.

That's some dubious news about the Seagate 500GB 7200.11, Unfortunately, I ordered it well over a month ago when it was on special. So, I guess I'll have to wish for the best when I do my build.

<<fingers crossed>>
