every part is new

i was at the hdd format step and it was exactly at 76%

and out of nowhere my comp just shutdown

so i tried powering it up and i got "please check cable signal"

-took out ram and tried another one = no success

-did a barebone startup = no success

-took out ram to see if i get any beeps = no success

-took out mobo battery and resetted CMOS multiple times = no success

-took out my r9800pro and swapped it back in with a WORKING 9600 but i still got the please check cable signal

what's is causing this... is it the mobo or the powersupply.. maybe the cpu ?

system specs

*420 TT truepower
*socket754 3000+
*9800pro/9600np .. both have been tested and they work 100%
*Geil ValueRam 3200
*1 WD 80gig ide drive
*liteoncdrw/floppy disk

Have you tried checking the cable like it asked? Perhaps the monitor is slightly unplugged or there is a bent pin.

If you can try it with another mobo, test every part...

i'm using the moniter right now with no problem

my powersupply is enough since i don't have power hungry parts

only suspect is the mobo or the cpu

i did notice it was around 48C in the bios screen before i started the format

Check you CPU to make sure it was making contact with the heatsink. You'd be surprised at how hot your CPU runs in DOS or the Windows Installer. Neither of these support the HLT command, so it will run much hotter than it would at idle in Windows.

in bios before this happened

cpu was 47~49

is that hot ?

i took the standard crap thermal paste and applied AS5

Whenever I have a nagging problem like this...

I Take the entire computer apart. And Start Over with the build. This Time, use different PCI slots for your cards, and different ports for your drives if you know what I mean. And Try different cables too. Swap your CD rom and HDD cables. Just take everything apart, and start over. Make sure your HSF is seated well and go into the BIOS before hand to recheck some temps.
