Which mobo is the best deal in your opinion for the D805 right now? Also, are there any D805 supporting boards that also support Conroe? If so, which do you recommend?

I'd like to know on this one, also. An 805 build looks appealing for a budget box with Conroe around the corner, but none of the mobos appeal to me.

I looked around and it seems no current mobo officially supports Conroe, but my original question still stands. Let's hear your input.

I just snapped one of these processors up and I had the same concern. My thought for this processor was cheap, cheap, cheap!!! Cheap CPU, cheap mobo, cheap memory.

So, I went to newegg.com and found this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131578

I got mine refurbished for $72 shipped

I then trolled ebay for about three days and got a genaric 1GB stick of DDR2 533 for $48 shipped

The CPU was $125 shipped so that means that all together I spent less than $250 on my new setup, not including the stuff I already had like case powersupply etc.

I am typing this post on the new machine running smoothly at 3.75 GHz on stock air cooling and stock voltage. you can use pretty much any Nforce 4 motherboard and pretty much any DDr2 memory that can be run at 200mhz

The best part is: I was also in the market for a new video card as well. Even though this project set me back a few months on that purchace I was wondering what to do with my old pair of 6600GT's from my opty rig. Now I'll put my two 6600GT's in SLI on my P4 budget OC rig and I'll have the super low budget overclocker's special of a 4GHz P4 with SLI
ALL FOR UNDER $500!!!!!!!!!. Awesome!

Who needs an Xbox 360 now??

I did some quick searching on newegg

Check out this open-box motherboard for $55 before shipping:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138254R

and this memory is $70 shipped for 1 gig
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141190

Or just use ebay for memory because 1 gig sticks are routinely going for $50 or less

then get a pair of 6600Gt's here's one that's going for $80 before shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145098R

the pair will likely run you $180 with shipping. and they don't require any external powersupply connections, a budget builder's bonus.

All together, assumeing you have case, powersupply, and hard drive you'll spend under $500 for a rig that can run oblivion at 1024x768 with everything maxed and 2x AA and it runs smooth

Hell, you could toss on another gig stick for 2 GB's and still not break $500

watch it if you're lookin for refurb 975XBX Intel boards. A HUGE majority of them are all Rev 302's and people didn't want it, so they shippsed it back hoping to get a Rev 304 (which supports conroe). RIght now, unless you want to dish about 230-260 dollars for that Intel 975XBX, you've got no other choice for conroe boards. If you want something budget, I recommend an Abit AW8. It's a 955XE board, not conroe compatible, but 80 bucks for a nice overclocking board on newegg is pretty good. It'll last until you buy that board, or you could wait about a week or so and the i965 boards start showin up on the net.

I like the look of hte ASUS P5ND2-SLI, but would I potentially run into problems running one X1900XTX on an nVidia SLI chipset?

ASRock has a board VSTA (I dontremember full model) that is out and will support connie.
