New: WD Caviar Blue WD10EALS 1TB 7200 RPM

Do you actually have a question? Or do all new HDDs/SSDs get listed on this forum?

Do you have a problem with him posting this relative information to a STORAGE forum?

Thanks Rembrandt for this info though. Would not be bad to pick of one of these.

333GB or 500GB platters?

Hopefully they updated this to 500GB platters (as opposed to the 333GB platters of the 1TB Black), in which case it should be competitive with the Samsung F3 in sequential transfers.

Edit: but I doubt it... probably has the same 333GB platters... so no incentive...

Edit2: http://yertech.blogspot.com/2010/02/wd1001faes-and-wd1002faex-appear.html - except here we see that " you can expect a pair of 500GB platters in all of the models." - So maybe it does use 500GB platters...

Edit3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 - and here is the new Caviar Black... could be a new King of the Hill 1TB drive, but at $120... not inexpensive like the F3.

No one seems to care/know too much about this drive, but I'd argue it's the best 1TB out there right now. Compared to my fantastic specimen 6400AAKS on P5Q Pro:

Excellent transfer rate and access time. No firmware woes like the Seagate (knock on wood) or vibration/hum like the Samsung F3s.

Oh, even compare it to the WD1002FAEX (new Black):

Paying for the warranty with the blacks it would seem.

Which for me is worth it, in a few years, new drive. Although this may become less worth it now with the SSD movement, and growth on that front.
