Hi guys
I upgraded my pc from a 3500+ to a X2 4200
Now I'm getting frequent lock-ups, random restarts, error beeps for the grafics card
Sometimes the system doesn't recognise the sata drive and won't boot (IDE's show up fine in bios)
I upgraded to the latest bios (1014) and upgraded the chipset driver according to the asus site.
Also installed the latest nvidia driver (91.31)

Idle temp is 40°C load 55°C
The system locks up when i play Americas Army (after 5-10 minutes)

I've used my glacialtech igloo 7200 light heatsink with coolermate thermal compound
Now I got the stock heatsink on it with the stock thermalpad: no effect, 40° idle

I'm using speedfan and everest to monitor the temps

My dual 6800 GT's have arctic silencer coolers on them blowing out of the case
And there is a 80mm exhaust casefan next to the cpu pumping out nice warm air

Is it possible that I got a bad chip?
It shouldn't lock up at 55-60°C now should it?
Just wanted to hear from you guys before I contact my reseller
Getting realy frustrated and desperate that my upgrade has taken a ugly turn

Please advise me

Do you have a way of testing your powersupply with a mulitimeter to see if your voltages are holding? You can use a spare unused molex connector to test from.

I got a nexus NX5000 powersupply (500w)
bought it less than a year ago when i build the system
in speedfan I do get strange voltage readings
Vcore: 1.34
+3.3V: 3.31
+5V: 5.00
+12V: 11.84
-12V: -1.50
-5V: -8.78
+5V: 4.84
Vbat: 3.07

my measurements
12V: 11.99-12.00
5V: 5.08

I'd recommend doing a fresh install of Windows XP, if you haven't done so already?

No not yet
been reading on the forum here that it might be a good thing to do
going to try a repair install first

now that the side is laying open, temp drops to 33°C

thx all

well if your vid cards start beeping
and it shuts down often

thennn, it might be your PSU.
Usually the Nvidia cards beep when they don't have power drawn to them

I say try a different power supply..

Your 12v line is quite low... I say it's a combination of high load temps and low voltage... 2 things that are bad on their own, aweful when combined!!

Try gaming with the side panel off, as you stated you've done, and see what happens... CPU's running at higher temps get less and less efficient, require more power, a vicious circle really.

Well guys I'm back

Reinstalled xp about 6 times today
Everytime I installed the new 6.65 chipsetdriver (straight from Asus) she locks on me

so I flashed the bios back to 1008 and installed only the things she needed of the mobo-cd
after SP2 that is

now it looks like the [H]ard time are over

Still 39°C idle
I'll keep an eye out

THanks for all the help people
