FINAL EDIT: What do you think of the MSI 975x Platinum? I'm thinking about going with that one.
Any comments, criticisms etc... on this board or do you recommend something completely different?

My budget is $50-70 but I am not necessarily looking to buy new. I got an offer for the MSI within my price range. Good deal or no?

I have a P4 3.0 LGA775 that I need a board to go with it for my son. I also have 3x512 PC 4200 DDR2, PCI -E video and only IDE drives. He does moderate gaming but not a whole lot of overclocking, yet.

I've been around for awhile but still consider myself a newbie. I have gotten GREAT help here before and know you guys won't steer me wrong. :D
Thank you for any advice you can give me!

I don't know if you'll get all 3 sticks of memory to work correctly or not.

Personally, I'd look at one of the lower priced boards that support Core 2 CPU's. Always a cheap drop in upgrade later when they come down in price without replacing the whole motherboard. They can be had in your budget range either new or used.

Ok, but WHICH board should I look at?

out of everything on newegg in the LGA775 and $50-75 range heres my suggestions.

this doesnt expressly say it supports P4 so check into that before, but it uses 667 DDR2 and supports a future core2 upgrade, but only has two ram slots

this only uses DDR2 533 (which might not matter to you) and only has 2 slots for ram as well, but it does say it supports both P4 and core2

if you do not plan to go core2 any time soon

this supports 4 sticks of DDR2 667 and has 3 PCIx slots

I have the msi 975x board with e6600 on it right now it runs great and for less that $70 its a very good deal
