Hi guys, I'm looking at simple computers for my friend which should last around 5 years. It HAS to be under £450. I'm thinking of the Mesh Matrix 5000+ Home Pro with:

- AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5000+ Socket AM2
- Geforce6100/nForce405 chipset, AMD Athlon X2/FX,Socket AM2 - Micro ATX
- 2GB DDR2 667
- 128MB nVIDIA GeForce 6150 PCI-Express - (onboard - non DVI) (I'm not sure if they mean 6100 or 6150...)
...

They'd only be using the computer for internet, office, movies and music, but I have a spare 7800 GTX which I'll give them if they ever want to play the odd game or too. Question is, how will the 7800 run in the nForce 405, since it will be limited to PCIe x8 right?

i used a lot of those boards (405, 410, 430 chipsets) tp make cheap boxes. i think you are correct about the pcie slot. but in no way does a 7800gtx need the bandwidth available with the 16 lane slot, ie if you benchmarked a card on a board with an 8 lane slot vs a 16 lane slot, all else being the same, there would be no difference. only now are cards starting to be able to take advantage of the 16 lane slot.(maybe)

Cool, cheers for the reply. I'll tell them to get that system again. Anybody else got any other good cheap computer manufacturers apart from Dell in the UK?

I'd also look at the AMD/ATI 690 boards. I'm sure that they can be had for about the same price as the Nvidia ones. I'm not saying they are any better, but are probably as good as the Nvidia ones.
