NFSMW DirectX 9?

My friend has a problem installing NFS:MW because it keeps saying he needs Direct X 9 but he already has it. Anyone have this problem? How can we fix it.
His System:

AMD X2 3800+
7800 GTX
DFI Lanparty Mobo
2 gigs OCZ
 
I don't know but it won't even run on my system unless its in safe mode. Just locks up when I load a race. Same thing with Underground 2. It's messed up. Wait...they're both EA products...

Have you tried reinstalling DirectX?
 
Try going to properties of the launch shortcut and forcing "Windows 2000 Compatibility" mode
 
what you do is unzip the 0compressed.zip file into the folder it is in, it's installed. then fire up speeddemo.exe and there you go.
