Alrighty, I have a 4870x2, would I be insane to spend $440 for that 5870 from xfx that's overclocked with warranty?

Part of my brain is going get it, get it,get it while the other part is saying NO, YOU FOOOOOL!

From what I've seen researching benches your X2 is pretty much on par or better than a single 5870 in 80% of the stuff out there.

Check ebay, you can get another X2 for 200-250$ and do a 4 way 4870. With mature drivers many games will scale fairly well with 4 GPUs.

I had a standard 5870 that performed great but died a couple of weeks ago. I returned it and was very tempted to jump on that 5870 XXX at the Egg. Instead, I reinstalled my GTX 285 and am looking for a deal on another one. I think two 285s in SLI will outperform a single 5870 for less money. I say stick with your 4870x2. It's equal to or slightly better than the 5870. If you just "have to" upgrade your video card, go for that 5970 beast.

If your going to upgrade get a 5970, because you will always want more of the good stuff. The 5870 is amazing and the 5970 is welll double amazing!

From someone who just went from two 4870 X2s to two 5870s in cf, there is no performance gain whatsoever in getting the newer card. You'll in fact lose FPS in some games.

Now, if you're planning on getting a couple more monitors for Eyefinity, then it's worth it.

do it if you plan to go to eyefinity, if not I'd say wait for more games that utilize DX11 to come out before you upgrade.
