I'm going to put down my current rig because its more trouble than its worth to me right now. I am considering the video system on my next one and I'm looking into SLI and want to know which is better 6600GTs in SLI or a 6800 vanilla on AGP

2x6600gt > 1x6800nu
2x6600gt > 1x6800gt(according to hardocp and several other review sites)

Oh, btw. Although I wanted to disprove someone earlier about 6600gt sli vs 6800gt sli, no one really says one way or another which wins. Still, you spend more on an sli board, and it's just less hassle to use one card. So that's an easy way to put the 6800gt ahead of the 6600gt's.

Also, if you want something that performs similarly o a 6800gt and is pci-e, you can spend 290-300$ on an x800xl, which is definately less than two 6600gt's and an sli mobo.

You mean SLI 6600GT's vs a single 6800GT?

I'm not sure about the 6600GT's, guess it depends on what brand you get. I'm running an XFX 6800GT on AGP, so if someone has some 6600GT's to compare this to, it might help: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=688238

And check out this review, it's not too far away, and the comparisons might be useful: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NzE2

Hey Stop using my score!!! :D Just Kidding!
My 3dmark

I'm using 2x Leadtek 6600GT's OC'd at 540/1200 & AMD 64 3000+ at 2.4ghz.

As you can see it looks like I'm doing fairly well against the Ultra's.

2x6600GT against an 6800Ultra

I've had both the 6800nu AGP (BFG OC@400/800) and 6600GT's in SLI (550/1.1). This is on a 3200+@3800+ speed.

Aquamark - 6800nu = 65k; 6600GT's = 80k
3dmark03 - 6800nu = 11k; 6600GT's = 15k
3dmark05 - 6800nu = 4k; 6600GT's = 6.5k

Not sure what a single 6800 Ultra pulls, but according to benchmark sites the 6600GT's are beating a single ultra. For ~$360 the 6600GT's aren't too shabby if you have an SLI board. With increased SLI driver support in games, it might be worth it to you.

The 6800NU is faster than a single 6600GT. Two 6600GT's in SLi are faster than one single 6800 and the two 6600GT's are slower than a single 6800GT at higher resolutions especially when AA and AF are used.

I wouldn't recommend 6600GT SLI for gaming above 1280x1024. I think the 128-bit/128mb memory setup will lag above that with AF/AA on. That being said, 17 and 19 inch LCD's are that resolution natively and I think the 6600GT will be fine with that kind of a setup. Unless you're going with a large CRT or 20+ inch LCD, you could probably get away with 6600GT SLI.

My data from my 3DMark05 list.

Average 6800 Ultra SLI score 10,557
Average 6800 GT SLI score 9,722
Average 6800 SLI score 7,202
Average 6600 GT SLI score 6,428
Average 6800 Ultra score 5,537
Average 6800 GT score 5,012
Average 6800 score 3,944
Average 6600 GT score 3,568

I have some good data on that, I own a 6600GT SLI set and a 6800GT SLI set. (and until recently a 6800NU set)
