I'm going to NYC for the weekend and I'm trying to figure out which lenses to bring. Pretty sure I'll be taking the 10-22 and the 30 f/1.4, but I'm debating whether or not to leave the 24-70 at home. Any suggestions? I'm going with friends and I might want to take some portrait type shots, so that's why I'm considering it.

I would bring it. Dunno about you but that is the range I shoot in the most.

My daily pack (I bring the camera pretty much everywhere I go) is:
12-24 f/4
28-70 f/2.8
70-200 f/2.8
90mm f/2.8 macro
1.4x TC
SB800 speedflash w/cord and bracket
77mm CPL and ND
spare batty and 1G card
22" silver/gold reflector

I found that my 18-70 Nikkor lense was adequate enough for me in the City. I took pics of Central Park, Times Square, and the east village.

have fun!

I would take the 10-22 and the 24-70 and leave your 30mm prime at home...

by the time you're carrying a 10-22 and a 24-70, is really that much harder to carry the 30?

Also, it's hard to beat the prime for being a crisp lens.

Heh, I'm trying to pack light ;) The 24-70 is on my camera 90% of the time when I'm shooting people, but here I'll be outside and doing more buildings and city shots. I took it to Chicago last year and was mostly using it for portrait shots of my parents and was always wishing it was a little wider.

I figure the prime will be good if we go to museums, and it's pretty light.

If I had a 17-85 I'd probably bring it, but I sold it to my roommate last year. I either need a full frame body or Canon needs to make an EF-S 15-50 f/2.8L ;b

You wish. Or canon needs to make a 15-200mm L IS f/2.8....Now that would be a killer lens...

I'd take the 10-22, 30/1.4, and a longer zoom. A 70-300DO would be best, but not everyone can afford that hehe. A 70-200/4L if you have... but personally I don't think telephoto is nearly as necessary as wide.

If it were me, I'd use the 10-22 99% of the time :D

Killer as in your wallet and your arms/feet. hah. Knowing canon, the pickup truck would probably be optional, just like the hood
