AMD x2 5000+ BE
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 mATX motherboard
Corsair ddr2 2 x 2gb cas5
9600gt
Corsair hx520 psu

The problem is my board doesn't have any multipliers higher than the stock multiplier which the chip is set at (13.5 I think). How should I go about overclocking this chip, as the CAS5 Corsair isn't really a good overclocker compared to the newer CAS4 revision.

Do you have the latest bios for your motherboard? I had a similar issue with my board but updating the bios allowed access to higher multipliers

drop the divider on the memory to 333mhz will give you more headroom.. as long as you have the brisbane core it will do 3500mhz just changing the FSB.. i have a be-2350 which is a brisbane core running at 3ghz at 290x10.5 1.4v(1.376v w/ vdroop) only down fall is that you have to drop the HT link speed to 600mhz which brings it to 870mhz(1740mhz HT)..

you can do 230x13.5 to reach 3105mhz which then you can keep the HT link at x4 or 800mhz so w/ the overclock you will see 1030(2060mhz HT) which that board should be able to do.. going any higher then that on the FSB you would have to drop the HT down to 600mhz..or x3..your memory will be at 443mhz(886mhz w/ a 333mhz divider or cpu/7.. which id hope even being a cas5 corsair it should be able to do that..

but that core will do 3.5ghz at around 1.5v-1.55v..

Thanks guys, was able to put the chip at 3.0ghz which was all I really wanted anyway. Cheers!

cool no problem.. the brisbane cores a nice overclocker and actually scales pretty well even with being limited to only 512kb L2 cache per core..
