with F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ (9-9-9-24) occupied in 3 slots or in one, always fails to post. Red DIMM light is on. Checked the motherboard manual and this memory is not on the qualified vendors list (most are7-7-7-10) (though on Newegg G.skill said it would). Do I need different RAM? thanks

Maybe a stupid question, but which slots are you using? Make sure you are using the PRIMARY channel. Not sure which color slots those are... FTFM! :D

Got it working, however When I boot it says my system has 12GB. Then when I restart the system it goes back to only 10GB....whats wrong?

Either try increasing QPI/VTT voltage and/or loosen the CPU heatsink. It could be that the added pressure is causing some contacts to miss align and thus not showing all of your available memory.

Changing the voltage worked, I however Im new to this whole overclocking thing. Whats a good voltage to OC the memory to? Right now its at 1.20000 V. Also I'm planning on Overclocking my CPU eventually.

Changing the voltage didn't help, it went back down from 12GB to 10GB. It will probably go back down to 8GB again after restart......Any suggestions of how to fix this annoying issue? And since this is happening I doubt my system is even utilizing the memory....

Im trying to losen the CPU heatsink now, but any other help would be appreciated.....UGH THIS IS REALLY HOMO-SAPIENS WITHOUT THE SAPIENS!

Well I've tried losening the CPU heatsink, Upping the memory voltage as well......Started the comp up today it went back down to 6GB......shutdown the system....wiggled the memory and now it says its back up to 12GB.

Im worried about gaming because it probably wont utilize all the memory. Help?! What should I do?

I am having the exact same problem with my GA-X58A-UD3R, but I had ordered a P6X58D in an attempt to "fix" it. Now you've got me nervous... new mobo should be here this week.

Reseated the motherboard, CPU, and as well used the stock i7 fan instead of the bulky super cooler one. Also reseated the ram again. I physically removed the motherboard from the pc and put it back in.

So far so good, says 12GB of memory. Bios did a cool little memtest saying the memory was working...odd it never did that before....... a good sign.

Anyways I will update in about 2 days if the problem is solved or once it fails again. Im still hopeful, if it works then I will be one happy camper because my 5970 is on its way from newegg ;) the sooner I get to use that bad boy the better :)

Well.....woke up this morning to try and check....was hopeful it was gonna say 12GB.....NOPE.

Went back down to 6GB, must be a faulty motherboard, RMA time :(

DUH! Forgot to manually set the ram timings.......... got all the help I needed from the asus support website. Set the volts and timings, it should be good to go now.

It wasnt the timings....

I RMA'ed my motherboard a week ago, got it back and the problem still persists.

Even tried setting the timing down from 1600mhz to 1333mhz for 12 gigs. Didnt work, went back down to 8 gigs this morning.

Now Im going to try 6 gigs at 1600mhz, it should work, if not Im going to RMA the memory.

Posted on the official asus site for help, I have found no soultions thus far. Heres the link to the thread, read all of it:

System specs:
i7 920 @ 2.66 ghz
G-skill 12 gigs F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard: Asus P6X58D Premium

My memory problem ended up being faulty modules. At first it was only one, but a second OCZ module died this morning. Have you checked each stick individually?

I've seen several threads about issues with gskill memory and this board.

If you want a trouble free install just get the corsair memory in my sig. I've got 12gb running at advertised timings and speed with no issues at all.

I could've swore I read many people on Newegg complaining about this same exact thing.
I think the board is just F'd up.

Go on Newegg and read the negatives, they all are saying this same thing(I thought).

Well that and the board won't do any kind of raid using the SATA3 6Gbps ports.

I'm quite concerned on this as well...this is pretty much exactly what I'm going to build (except 1600Mhz 7-8-7-24N) and i picked ASUS because I read all the problems with Gigabyte on this.
and now I'm holding off on my build again..damn.
greasedneut please give us an update on the progress whenever you can! :(

I've got the same board and g.skill memory but with 8-8-8-24 timings and 1.6v rating

My first attempt was Mushkin Ram with 7-7-7-24 timings and 12gb but it wouldn't see all 12, just 10. Switched ram to the g.skill and it worked fine.

It seems some i7 boards can be really finicky with ram and i7 setups, takes a combination of the right pressure on the heatsink, correct voltage and luck of the draw ram to work right...
