hi all,

I m new to this forum n building pc's. I have heard a lot about water cooling so I'm planning to shift frm air to water.. Currently I'm having a Termalright 120 eXtream. Can please tell me what all parts r needed to build a complete WC system? Also bear in mind im planning to cool the CPU and the NORTHBRIDGE of d MB..

Also i will be purchasing d q9450 when it is released n plan to oc it over 4 ghz (if possible). I m a total noob n have no knowledge what so eva in the WC Division. I will be most thankful if u can also tell me in short what the various parts do. Till now the only thing i know abt d components is that i need a radiator, block, tubes and reservior.

Also i want to purchase all parts at a max of 250 bucks as i live in india n will be importing it. Just want d most extream cooling parts wch r reliable... Thank u..

I would forget about watercooling the NB because of what else you will need to do. you will have to get an evercool vc-re for the south bridge. You will also need to figure out a way to cool the mosfets since the NB and mosfets are connected via a heat pipe.

I did this to my NB and the temps are good, 40c in bios anyway.

I didn't use the ram sinks on the NB though.I was going to post another link but I can't find it.

Anyway you need to remove some of the pads from the NB and SB that go around the chip. what you want left is alittle square on each corner then put on some AS 5 and reset it. Your temps should come down and it will be much cheaper and if anything goes wrong you won't have to tear the whole dang thing apart, like I had to do with my 680i's.

http://www.petrastechshop.com/12yalod1cafa.html $4.99 each / $15.96 for 4

http://www.petrastechshop.com/1id3odtyr.html $3.25 a foot, I always buy way more than i need because you may need to change or I cut one just a hair to short

252.17 plus shipping for 4 fans and 5 feet of tubing.

Its a start and I'm sure someone could recommend something cheaper and as effective. Petras may ship internationally but I am not sure

thx for da help.. Any1 else would like to recommend sumthin better n cheaper??

1question... If i oc da cpu ova 4 ghz wont d nb get extreamly hot??

Dont i need any clamps / something??

Unfortunately, proper english will get you more attention to your threads, just FYI... I don't care, but some do.

I agree with everything Yuk said... However, I'm going to make some modification to his choices, to save you some $$:

Use a Tline rather than a reservoir to save yourself 14.99$. Reservoirs just make filling and bleeding the system easier. They don't help *at all* with cooling.

Use Masterkleer Tubing, rather than Tygon, to save yourself almost 2.50$ a FOOT (so, like 25$).

That's like, an extra 30-40$ savings right there dude.

For clamps, go to your local home depot or something, and pick up some "Worm Drive clamps".

Also, if you use masterkleer tubing, you'll notice it BARELY fits over 1/2" barbs... Infact, it's almost impossible to get it over barbs without alot of work. So, what you do, is dip the ends of the tubing into boiling water, let it soften, then put it over the barbs. When it cools, it LOCKS over the metal barbs. Most people that use this tubing don't even use clamps... But, if you're actually a DJ, like I was, you'll really want the reliability of using clamps... Nothing like having a machine go down during a shoutcast stream, or when a set's due or something.

Also, shop at jab-tech.com. They're often cheaper than petras by 15-20$.

And yes, overclocking to 4ghz will make the Nb get hot as hell. Either strap a small, 40mm fan to it (undervolt it to 5v if you can), or pick up a good NB heatsink. No need for a waterblock, really.

Evga has shipped a nb cooling fan along with the board (40mm I guess) but I feel that it wont be enough. Anyway does a 3 fan radiator have better effect in cooling than the 2 fan??

I reali dont mind spending $10 - $20 more but whatever I buy I want it to last for atleast 2 years.

No need to by the microres because the radiator that you chose has a built in reservoir. Saved you $15 and now your under your budget.

+1 for MasterKleer tubing. 7/16" tubing. 1/2" metal barbs!

I built my water cooled rig for way less than $250, and its holding my Q6600 to about 23 at idle. When I first installed it, it was idling at 32-34, but after reseating the water block, its now at 23. Load temps are about 36-38. I run at 3.2 ghz. The temps can get up to 40c after about 20 mins of CPU burn-in (4 instances), but then the fan kicks in and holds temps there.

Here is a breakdown of what I bought:
-Used socket 478 waterblock - $25 *I actually already had this and just adapted it to 775
-Used chipset block - $19 shipped
-105 gpm AC submersible pump, converted to in-line - $10 *this took me a bit of engineering, so you might need to spend more on a real in-line pump
-Logisys Clear Dual Bay Reservoir - $30
-95 Taurus Heater Core - $11 *too big to fit in the case, but large size allows for great cooling and fits on top of the case. I'm also in the process of building a fiberglass shroud for it
-150 cfm Delta 120mm PWM fan - $8 *moves a huge amount of air, but speedfan keeps it silent at 900 rpms when my system is below 40 degrees
-20 feet of 3/8" ID hose from Home Depot - $5
-Misc clamps, grommets, nuts and bolts ~$10

So, my total setup costs $110 and cools great. It looks a bit ghetto right now with the copper colored heatercore sitting on top, but thats because I haven't finished my fiberglass project for the shroud. It should look really good once I finish that.

Yes a 3 fan has better cooling and with that quad its better as quads especally when overclocked put out lots of heat. And theres no need for tygon imo its the same u just pay for the ink on the tube that says tygon.
