i have asus 4850 as my main card with 2 monitors connected to it. and i also have a x1550 PCI card to run my 3rd monitor. my motherboard only has 1 x16 slot.

would I get better performance running the 2nd vid card through PCI-e x1 slot over PCI? I dont know if it was the vid card or not but I notice my PC didnt feel as snappy as before. Maybe its just my mind thinking that, who knows lol

Didnt realize they had x1 video cards until I saw a couple on newegg so just wondering if its an upgrade from x1 slot over PCI. Card is pretty expensive though for whats available.

I also came across this Startech x1 to x16 adapter. anyone with experience with this?

or should I just wait and upgrade my motherboard down the road to something that is crossfire-enable? (though id have to disable crossfire for 3 monitors) :)

Well, I can tell you PCI Express x1 has more bandwidth than PCI. By far.

Other than that, most of your questions are beyond my knowledge.

If you're looking for gaming, I'd say wait until you upgrade your motherboard, because x1 really doesn't give you any options.

If you're just using this as a work desktop, then you may not really see much difference.
