Looking at getting a board with P4 and C2D capabilities. I am looking at this board but it does not specify that it does take P4 chips however it on the manufacturer's website it list all socket t processors. Will this board take a P4 chip?

If you guys know of any good mobos with integrated graphics....G31, G33, G35, G41, G43, or even G45 chipsets that have capabilities to take both P4 and C2D chips, please list them. Thanks.

You really lost me as to what you're trying to do here...

Ummm.....dont see how you cant understand stand it. But here it goes again. I need a new mobo with onboard graphics. I have a Pentium 4 processor that I need to use. But I would like to have the option to uprade to a core 2 duo processor in the future w/o changing out the motherboard. Now, the link I listed in my original post, will that motherboard support a Pentium 4 processor?

On Foxconn's website (2nd link), it shows the different processor that particular board can handle. And it does not mention a Pentium 4 specifically. Last processor it lists is socket T which is just LGA 775 sockets in general.

Note: The P4 chip I pulled out of my fried/old board, is based on the LGA 775 socket.

You'll need to provide specific part data on that Pentium 4 chip as some P4 Socket 775 processors were actually manufactured - if that's what you have you'll need to provide the info on the top of the heatspreader for more assistance.

If it's one of the CPUs on this list:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ParentRadio=All&ProcFam=483&SearchKey= (narrow the Package Type to Socket 775 and click Filter On Selections)

There's a good chance that most any Socket 775 (Socket T) board less than 3 years old will support it, but it remains to be seen.

I looked on the processor itself and the spec number is SL7J6. 3.0gHz, 1MB, and 800. So according to intel I have a lga 775 processor which makes sense b/c its written on the old mobo.

This link may help:

It looks like you're looking for one of the older Core 2 Duo chipsets, like the G965.

This Foxconn board looks like it'll work:

If you click the "compatibilty" link on the left hand side, it looks like this supports some of the older Celeron D and Pentium 4 CPUs:

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/EN-US/product/Motherboards/detail_spec.aspx?ID=en-gb0000220

I am trying to look for something in the G4x series b/c onboard video is key. I wouldnt mind G3x series either but prefer the newer series. Also, with the G965 series, I wont have that much of a selectivity on the processors b/c intel will discontinue the slower bus speed processors. Not sure what the timetable will be when I will upgrade. But even with the G965, the graphics spec. suck. So, like I said before G4x would be first on the list then G3x series. Thanks.

The motherboard that you listed in your original post doesn't list any Netburst CPUs in its compatibility chart. So I'd have to say, if it supports it, you'll be lucky.

EDIT:

These motherboards do support Pentium 4's to varying degrees.

Biostar GF7100P-M7S
Tul TG31-M2
PNY MBM630I7150

I have no idea what that means. Based on the info I just gave, would I be able to upgrade to a G4x series chipset w/ P4 compatibility?

Netburst is the codename for Pentium 4 and Pentium D cpus.

All three of the boards I listed are compatible with Pentium 4 LGA775 CPUs. One of them is a G31 motherboard, but the other two are have Geforce 7100 or Geforce 7150 graphics (which are better than Intel's graphics, if only a little bit).

Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up. So there really is not any mobo out there that can support P4 chips.....especially the newer boards?

I went to the manufacturer's page of the TUL mobo that you linked and it doesnt mention any P4 processors that it supports. All it says is this "Supports Socket 775 for Intel® Core™2 Duo, PentiumR Dual-Core, CeleronR processors". What do I need to look for in a mobo especially the type of processors it supports for a P4 chip?

You just have to hunt down their CPU compatibility charts.

I couldn't find PNY's CPU chart, they just say P4 is compatible. So you might get lucky with this one, or you might now.

Here's TUL's:
http://www.tul.com.tw/global/products_mainboard_compat_cpu_intel.aspx
I don't think your CPU will work with the G31-M2 (the one I listed)I since all of the other 84 watt P4's are listed as incompatible, but the G31-M1 show them as passing their tests.

Here's Biostar's:
http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/cpu_support.php?S_ID=312
Your specific CPU is in the comaptibility list, so it'll work.

It's not that I don't understand it, just why would you go through the trouble. Sell the P4 chip for $20-40, buy a C2D for $100. For $60 you can get a proven C2D mobo without the hassle.

Well, its not for me. Its for a relative and strapped for cash right now.

Yeah I figured it was either for someone else or a backup system for you since your setup would smoke a P4. Suggest the $60 upgrade for a far superior processor.

Also note: You can get a refurbished IBM or Dell computer P4 ~2.8Ghz with mediocre components for $90. If he/she is strapped for cash, that's the way to go. If they have other parts worth salvaging, really, try to convince them to jump for the C2D.

I still dont know if any G3x or even G4x mobos that are out there can support P4. Some mobos listed on newegg say they do but when visiting the manufacturer's website, it doesnt list it. Looks like I will have to test a mobo out by buying it and seeing whether or not it will work. Otherwise......looks like a complete system rehaul to me.

I just told you of a G31 board that does. The Tul TG31-M1. (Not the TG31-M2 I listed earlier)

Tul didn't test your specific model CPU, but there are six other models with the same CPU ID (0F34h) as yours that passed testing. There's no reason yours shouldn't work if those did.

YES! IF YOU CLICK ON THE SPECS TAB ON THE NEWEGG PAGE, IT SAYS ... PENTIUM CHIPS
