I am planning and budgeting for a new Intel Core 2 based system. The E6600 (2.4GHz w/ 4MB L2) , 1066Mhz FSB looks like the best price point for my budget.

My question is what memory should i get for it if I plan to O/C DDR2-5300? DDR2-6400 ? DDR2-8000 ? Also, what Brand kit should I get for the DDR2? the choices I have are OCZ, Corsair XMS?, Patriot Memory , Geil , or Kingston Hyper-X any suggestions?

Also, what is the lowest latency you can get for DDR-2 ? (for DDR1 it was 2-2-2-5)

Also, do you think my current powersupply (Antec NeoHE500) is sufficent for the planned system ?

Intel Core 2 (E6600) O/C'ed.
Zalman 9500 LED cooler.
2 x Sunnon 92mm "Maglev" fans. (if required)
Asus 965 "Broadwater" chipset based motherboard. (or may be the boards used for Conroe XE..)
2 x 1GB highspeed DDR-2 modules
1 x HIS x1900xt Icq3 PCI-E card.
3 x PATA HDD's.
1 x PATA DVD drive.
1 x Creative x-fi sound Card.

hm... i've got my conroe setup in note pad ready for me to get the money and for the conroe to come out (E6600 also). I'm lookin at the Mushkin eXtreme DDR2800 RAM (since i've heard a lot about Conroe running optimum at DDR2800 speeds). The stuff overclocks well (like 1.015ghz frequency stable). Timings are 3-2-2-8. =) that's about as low as i have seen DDR2, but there may be lower *shrugs*

I would like to know about the best ram for the concore as well...

It's going to be DDR2, so figure accordingly. I'm going to get 2GB DDR2-667.

Does anyone have a price list for Conroe?

they are around on the net, search xs. im going to be buying 2 conroe mb/cpu combos, possibly three... seeing as they will probably be sold out in a matter of a day.

this seems to be the most up to date price list, take release dates with a grain of salt as there seems to be confusion about which procs intel will release first...

despite what that list says, there will be no 3.33 for conroe this year.

True, but its all good since fellas on XS have an E6700 oc'd to 4.0ghz on stock voltage on an intel branded board :D

lol, wow. crazy system. I"m thinking of...

Core 2 Duo E6600
Some i965/i985 chipset motherboard from Abit/Intel/Asus
2Gb 2x 1Gb Mushkin eXtreme XP2-6400
1 x Seagate 300Gb Hard Drive
Either 7900GT, or a G80/R600 variant

What are you doing with the PC?

If your on a budget here, going for 2GB RAM might be a bit superfluous. You could scale it down to 2x512 and save yourself a few pennies, most games that you'd be playing won't suffer much of a drop at all.

will all of those conroe's outperform a pentium 940 D? and AMD's fx's?

Pretty much :). The lowest conroes will probably match/slightly beat the highest PDs and A64/FX and the upper Conroes will just rape all the current gen CPU's.

Are you talking to me? lol. 2Gb is good. 1GB sticks will allow me to be able to upgrade later on too with 2 more sticks of 1GB =).
