Power Supply for 4x280x

Whats the absolute lowest PSU wattage that will enable 4 cards to mine 24/7? CPU wont be OC'd, nothing will be OC'd.

I have a spare Seasonic X1050 laying around but afraid it wont suffice. Ive been seeing random numbers for actual 280x wattage at full capacity.
 
Depends on how much the base system uses.

I would guesstimate that you're looking at 1000W for the 4 cards, plus the rest of the system. I wouldn't feel safe with anything less than 1200W.
 
This is mainly for mining purposes, the base system is idle for the most part during mining. Reason I asked about the Seasonic 1050watt is because there is mixed results on maximum load numbers for a single 280x. TomsH tested the 280x pulling 256w while mining, while other 209. I figured the seasonic unit could support 1150watt max.
 
Minimum 1200W, but I'd be more comfortable at 1300W.

Never plan for an overload situation... even with the best brands out there, that's asking for trouble. Either the unit will shut down or you will shorten its lifespan.
 
Seeing how the pricing is jumping on all PSU's, I decided to get a 1500w REVOMAX. It was only $20 more than a 1250w-1300w unit
 
for mining I have 3 OC 280x's on a 1050 enermax silver and it is MAXED when they're at 1.2v. If you can run them all at 1050/1500 on 1.1v or less instead of 1.2v there is hope of running 4 on 1k if all run 1.1v but that is the absolute limit

Dropping from 1.2v down to 1.1v will save you 100w AT THE WALL per card. I recently did this using a killawatt so yes I am stating this firsthand instead of guessing. I would certainly call the PSU I'm running maxed though. Make sure you read my 280x tuning thread
