problem with iPod

everytime i try to access my ipod, it gives me a picture of a folder with an exclamation mark in the bottom left corner of the folder.. so, what does that mean??? and how can i fix it??i can access my ipod only through hooking it up to my computer.....

*EDIT* i tried resetting the ipod and that didnt work
 
You'll want to go and download the newest iPod updater software from www.apple.com/itunes.
It's in the lower left at the bottom of the page.
Install that, then plug your iPod back in. You'll want to restart it, and make sure it shows the Do not disconnect deal after a bit of waiting.
You'll then want to run the iPod updater and click Restore.

If it fails to restore after that, you might want to bring it by an Applestore if you're near one. It's likely a dead hard drive.. possibly drop damage, but who knows with hard drives.
