Granted, I have already asked this same question at Ubuntuforums, but I'm wondering if the motherboard itself is going to be a lost cause with linux...
I was looking to install ubuntu onto this system:
Foxconn 6150K8MA-EKRS motherboard
AMD Opteron 144 CPU
1gb pc3200
1x80gb Maxtor PATA HDD
3x320gb Seagate SATA HDD --turned off so I can try to narrow down what the problem is.
onboard video, network
And of course, there's the problem with getting kernel panics and freezes at the install phase, due to problems with apic and acpi in the kernel itself.
I have already turned ACPI and APIC off in the bios,
I'm still no closer to being allowed to install ubuntu, or any other variety of linux for that matter.
Is there something that I'm missing still?
Thanks again.
edit: nevermind, looks like one of the memory modules was giving errors under memtest. Was able to get a commandline version of 7.10 installed without issue.
