I just wanted to say, awesome job and that you gave me some good ideas for my own case mods to come in the future.

A pleasure to read!

ok, its been a long long time since my last update.
the mod progressed only very slowly but now i'm done !!

and here is what happened until now:

i bought 2 switches for power and cd tray eject and lined them on the front plate:

here is a better shot how the drive will be mounted, since the originall mounting holes didn't line up anymore after removing the original front plate:

fs102.JPG

i've sanded some parts and give them some coats of white paint:

first i bought some 0815 case feet but then i wanted to make something on my own.
i started with some scrap plastic and turned 4 feet:

very first test fit:

top exhaust fan test fit,......fit's!!!!!

fs117.JPG

however the test fit showed me that hidding all that cableing would be a pita, so i decided to frost a aproxx. 5cm border of the plex window, behind which i could run some cables.

fs118.JPG

here i cut a plexi stripe which will hold the led lightning for the etch:
fs119.JPG

i rewired the power and hdd activity led with a red and white one.
then i placed them in the front intake fan, since the fan will be covered with some dust filter it should give me a nice glow.

remember the plexi stripe?
here i soldered 3 white and 4 red leds for the lightning:

in this project i did my first real wiring sleeving.
untill now i only used those flex, spiral tubes.
i pulled the sleeving from an old psu btw, and re-used it (ghetto !!)

fs127.JPG

the paint of the case was damaged during the re-work so i sanded it a bit and did some more coats of flat black:
fs128.JPG

then i changed that golden chipset cooler to the larger black one:

the hdd tray you saw in earlier post is now scewed in via the bottom of the case:

i covered the wires for the power and hdd leds in the intake fan with some black tape:

switches installed:

some things "covered up"
the material used is some sound dampening material i've got left. the material is inflameable so no problem mounting it next to the psu:

fs140.JPG

fs141.JPG

i had to come up with a mounting thing for the led lightning. i needed to maintain a certain angle for the plexi stripe: so i bent some aluminium:

some minor updates

fs150.JPG

fs151.JPG

i felt unstopable, this is where desaster usualy strikes.
and it striked !!

the slave hdd didn't show up anymore, master was working fine.
I couldn't belive the hdd died so o bought a new cable.

fs153.JPG

both hdds showed up but now i couldn't access the master drive anymore :(
but with the old cable the master drive works, but not the slave drive. crazy !!

so i bought a new 80gb hdd

panels "on"

there are some minor flaws, but all in all i'm very satisfied.
atm it serves as mp3 player in the shop, nice!

take care

You rock! Excellent mods

You've given me new hope for modding a pair of ex-telecomm 4u rackmount cases I have kicking around.

Wow that turned out pretty well!

Just a suggestion, but if you are going to be using it for music you might consider investing in a pci sound card. Even a relatively cheap sound card would likely be noticably better than onboard, but then again I don't know what kind of onboard sound you have :)

All in all I think you did a very nice job on a unique case, congrats!

Wow from start to finish it took you quite a while to finish the entire mod. Even though I am not a huge fan of the white paint, you sir have executed the mod very nicely. Your way of figuring out how to accomplish what u want to do is quite refreshing.

Great Job :D
