No, it's sequel, sorry.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Absolutely brimming over with wrongability... ;)

It was S-Q-L when it first hit the scene "back in the day" when I first started using it, 87 or so? - Made dBase IV spiffy. I guess I'm just a grumpy old fart. I think the first time I heard "sequel" was at a 'nix seminar in the early 90's. Either way is correct I suppose, but we can have fun arguing none the less over a few beers. Maybe come up with a few more interesting ways to pronounce acronymns that have no vowels. :D

Peace,
Tim

From the top :

A T I
Gee Force
Ra-Dee-On
Nn vidia
Aa sus
Aa bit
S L I
Athh-lon
Vy-a
Sowny

Can't think of anymore, too pissed

But then how do you say the number of cards? ;) Eg : Radeon 9800 I would say Ra-Dee-On nine eight hundred and sometimes just Ra-De-On nine eight.

Gee-Force six eight hundred....Gee-Force six eight..

I suppose alot of people would say nighty eight hundred or nine thousand eight hundred etc

Don't you love regional accents and ways off pronounciation :D

Its Ray not Ra, but I agree on everything else!

Also, I say nighty eight hundred and sixty eight hundred.

Also to the other person from Missouri, it drives me crazy when people from here say Missour-ah and not Missouri. Either way I justy misery!

How about awp?
Ahwupuh or Aawop with the a pronounced as in ray?
Island as in eyeland or is land?
Knife as in nighfe or kuh nife?

All the people I have known to say it here in Winnipeg say these words as:

Ray-dee-on

Eh*-tee-eye

* being said as the infamous Canadian "Eh."

I once knew a person who said A.W.P (almost always said here as "Eh-Doubleyoo-Pea") as "Aww - pp" but she played Unreal, so all bets were off :p

how about TEAC
is it TEEK
TEE-C
TE-ACK
T.E.A.C.
or just "generic drive company" (gdc)

ATi - Ay Tee Eye
Radeon - Ray Dee On
nVidia - En Vi Dee Uh
GeForce - Gee Force
McAfee - Muh Cafee
Adobe - A Doh Bee
Gnome - Nome
Gentoo - Jen Too (these last 3 are all "real" words with generally accepted pronunciation)
OCZ - Oh See Zed
Peltier - Pel Tee Ay (my French filters in in me here)
GUI - Gee You Eye
SCSI - Scuzzy (only acronym I say rather than spell)
Abit - Ay Bit
Asus - Ay Suss or Ay Soos (I swing both ways baby)
Knoppix - Naw Pix
SQL - Ess Cue Ell
Via - Vee Uh
AWP - Ay Double-you Pee

And I always say 9800 (etc) as ninety-eight hundred. Though 9000 is nine thousand.

Do you pronouce radio like ra dio? Or rather ray dio?

Was trying to think of another word to counter that for the ra-de gang....but I can't lol too much lager (lar-ger lol) :D I guess it's the vowel after the D that makes it sound like Ray but I can't call it Ray-de-on after all these years.

Bollocks I'll still pronounce it Ra-de-on :D

There's the American lu-ten-nent and the British lev-ten-nent

It's more like Leff-ten-nant, we pronounce it that way in Canada and Australia also as well as most commonwealth countries.

Also, Pelt-ti-eh and as I said before O - See - Zed. :)

Methylchloroisothiazolinone?
Mee-thil-chlor-ro-ice-o-thee-a-zo-lee-known (not zo-lee-none-ee like calzone :p haha)

And yeah, why the heck do people call it the Arctic Warfare Magnum an AWP anyway? I've been playing since beta 1.4 and it's always AWP AWP AWP. (aww-p).

Umm thinking of some more.
Ben-Queue
Lin-Ex
Len-O-Vo
Dee-Eff-Eye
Vee-Ah/Vye-Ah (I've heard both ways)
I always prefer Gee - You - Eye to Gooey but I accept that H - You - Eye is hudd

Oh here's a new one:

SAT-Uhh
or SAA-TAA
or Say-Ta
or Ess - A - Tee -A?

Hard - O - See - Pee !!! (bonus point to those who can actually remember what it stands for!) :)

if i see another one of these thread, im going to jump off a bridge

Wait about 90 days, but start finding a bridge now that has easy access with large pointy rocks under it. Or if you don't want to jump, don't look? It has happened, it is happening, it will happen. This is one of the best ones that have popped up.

;)

Tim

Oh See Zed. (Don't even say a word, on a side note, Oh See Zee sounds like a car)
