I'm being offered a chance to buy a Q6600 SLACR real cheap. Since I am not upgrading to an iCore any time soon I was wondering if this Quad would have enough muscle to run a 5870 or even a 5870X2 and get iCore results somewhat. I would surely OC it past 3.0. I currently have a Core2Duo OC'ed past 3.0.

It'll have no problem running a single 5870, if the speed is past 3GHz. If you get two 5870s, then you'll definitely CPU limited, which will vary depending on the game, setting, and resolution. If you're gaming on 1920X1200 or less, a single card should be more than enough.

You'll be fine since you're overclocking it. And you're already running a 4870x2 from your sig?

I game at 1920X1200.
