Hey all,

Alrighty, I'm finally in the market to build a new PC after 3 years. (My first was for Qcon '04) I just want to double check with everyone to see if this looks to be a fine build. I'm open to any suggestions.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6320

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 800 (PC6400)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R

Video Card: I'm in a debate between the 8800GTS 320MB and the 8600GT

I mostly play CS:S at 800x600 so I think that the 8800GTS would be a little overkill, but I just need 100FPS constant.

EVGA 8800GTS 320MB
EVGA 8600GT

PSU: Corsair HX520w

CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro (I'm open to other suggestions)

Already owned/purchased parts:

Case: Cooler Master Mystique 632
HDD: 2x Seagate 500GB 7200.10 SATA
CD/DVD-ROM Drive: NEC drive
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Gamer

Thanks!

No overclocking = stock hsf
Light overclocking = you got it
Heavy overclocking = Thermalright's Ultra 120, Tuniq Tower, Sycthe Infinity

As for the video card, if that's *all* you'll ever be playing then the 8600GT should suffice. However, if you have any plans for future games then the 8800GTS would be the better choice.

..and shop around. For example, the CorsairHX can had for less at buy.com

... and the AC F7Pro is cheaper at eWiz.

Whats your budget? Can you squeeze the E6750 in there?

I know the 8600GT sux, but I'm not sure how it would do with CS:S on 8x6.

Which the cpu to E6550 and look at Crysis and tell you don't want to play it.

P.S. What kind monitor do you have...

My 7600GT pushes CSS at 1680 x 1050 pretty well ( I don't remember the exact numbers but something along the lines of >50 ), so I was guesstimating off of that.

I'm trying to keep this under $900 at most. Maybe I can push it to $1000 but I would rather not. I'm trying to keep this a little reasonable. (I just bought a MacBook so I'm trying to save money)

Yeah I know about looking at other sites, it's just easier for me to put everything on a wishlist on NewEgg. After I find out everything, I'll search for better deals from there.

I think I'm going to swap the CPU cooler with the Thermalright Ultra-120.

I'm not really into graphics so much. I compete in CS:S (play on BFGGaming) so I don't really play anything else. Crysis does look cool, but I'm not that excited for it.

For monitor, I have a Dell 19" M992 CRT.

From reading reviews about the GeForce 8600GT and the 8800GTS 320MB, I think that the 8600GT will work better for me. I'm not going to be playing anything about 1280x1024 anyways. (If anything, I'll just play @ 1024x768 w/ 100Hz, most games are at 800x600 however)

The E6550 does look like a good choice for overclocking, I think I'll switch to that.

For $184 for a E6550.. at newegg/mwave you can easily get a E6750...

Thanks for everyone's help. This is what I will be ordering:

Antec Nine Hundred
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 800 (PC6400)
EVGA 8800GTS 320MB
Corsair HX520w
