I work in storage and as a result I'm often switch cables between my lab computers to different DAS/NAS/SAN RAID devices. Sometimes I don't do anything, other times I might move the cable 50 times a day between them.

I got some nice cables - with a metal connector and a long pin (so it's easy to find and push down) - but I can't find where I got them from. I have some cheaper ones but the little plastic pin on the RJ45 connector is so short I can't barely reach it.

So my question is where can I find some nice cables with metal RJ45 connectors (so they don't break off - but if you know of some good plastic ones, that's fine), and long plastic pins on the RJ45 connectors. If there is a cover I'll probably cut it off but if it doesn't have them that's fine.

Any advice/links are appreciated.

Monoprice. They are so cheap priced that you can afford to break one or two every other day.... and a pretty solid quality too.

I'd have to agree with Ockie on this. I've ordered hundreds of cables from them, and you can't really beat them for the $$$.

I second Ockie's statement, I just bought 5 Cat5e cables and they are more durable then my stupid cat5e cable I bought at bestbuy for 3x as much.

I really really like Gruber.

Try them out. Top quality stuff for a good price.

Also, most of their stuff is MADE IN THE US! w00000t!!!11!

Edit: What you are looking for is at the very bottom of the link.

The bottom cable is exactly what I have (only in a white). Can't say it's a Gruber, but it does have the same connector. But I may have a hard time justifying these cables (expensive).

And I do have ones from Mono Price - those are the ones that wouldn't work (well same packaging exactly as monoprice, just were not bought from Mono Price). I think I might just get a switch in the middle and call it good.

Gruber sure makes some nice stuff.

We use a ton of cables from Cables To Go. Both them and Grubar are local to us, so shipping is quick. We have a reseller account through CTG and their prices are pretty good.
