i was looking at athlon-64s to see what prices were, and i noticed that venice comes stock at 1 ghz htt, does this mean that overclocking will be even more chipset limited then it already is?
no.there is an HT multiplier. stock settings for the cpu is a 200mhz HTT(fsb) with an HT multi of 5 for 1000. the multi can be lowered to 4, 3, 2 and in some cases 1.
i thought the nforce-3/4 chipset is the cause of major headaches of many kinds, perhaps its motherboard build related, my friends fx-53 did 3 ghz on air cooling and then his motherboard decided to die, he never managed to get another motherboard that could get it past ~2.6-2.8(dont remember exact clock, less then 3 ghz+ tho) after that
