I want to use this DVD player with a separate 100-150gb external hard drive.

I see in the comments that it requires a Fat32 formatted drive to work properly, which windows can only do 32gb partitions.

Would the easiest solution be to borrow a buddies Mac and format it into Fat32 that way? Will my Vista rig accept it ok?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on a drive? Some even come as Fat32 but I don't want to buy based on that. And will a 5400rpm drive be efficient for streaming high-def movies?

If there is a better player in the 50-75 dollar range I also wouldn't mind a recommendation. :)

(Sorry for the bazillion questions.)

That Player doesn't play any HD formats.
Also, if you did have HD movies, you can't put them onto a Fat32 partition if they are over 4GB.

I'd get this,

and a USB DVD drive if you needed to play DVD's.

Ahhh damnit I didn't see that. And I'm a noob with fat32 so I didn't know anything about the 4gb limit.

That's way out of my budget though. No HD I guess, just standard for me.
