Just a quick one: if I output video through HDMI, can I simultaneously output audio through the proprietary connector to the red/white RCA plugs? Or am I forced to use the on-board HDMI signal or Toslink connection?

you need to pick one output source if am not mistaken, why can't you use HDMI for video and audio?

but the PS3 does auto detect your outputs it might just ask you to pick one or the other.

Yes it can, but you need a receiver or a tv that is capable of taking Audio from HDMI.

You can also output the audio over the optical connection.
