I already have both processors. The Q9450 has more cache, 45nm, and SSE4.1, but it has a lower multiplier and the QX6850 is unlocked multiplier. I figure I'll get a higher OC out of the QX and the clock speed difference would be better than having SSE4.1. Is it better for me to use the QX?

also if I go with four 2gb modules, will it be harder to OC than if I went with two 2gb modules? I'm going to use a high end mobo, but I read it's less stable for overclocking with four modules vs two

+1 for the Q9450 unless you're doing some extreme cooling...a Q9450 will easily take you to 3.5 on air...4+ with more aggressive cooling...if you think you need more, and have money to burn, then go with the QX6850.

Also, I would agree that the chances of finding four sticks that overclock as well as two are theoretically lessened simply by the variables of silicon.

probably in the 3.6ghz range for both, though with the Q9450 you wont have to use as much volts and its a 45nm chip.
