What are some good racing games for the PC? Besides the Need for Speed stuff. I'm wondering if there's anything I've missed. I was playing Sega Rally Revo this morning and was so frustrated with how piss poorly this game was designed I couldn't help but wonder what IS good. You have absolutely ZERO control on Sega Rally Revo. It is so freakin' frustrating.

For arcade-like racing the FlatOut series is tough to beat; especially FlatOut 2. GRID is fun and DIRT is fun and they both have demos you can try out.

I'm still playing papy's nascar 2003 racing season. Mosport w/ the PWF Trans Am mod never gets old. plus there are a metric shit ton of tracks out for the game.

Flatout Ultimate Carnage is also for PC. It's the same as 2 but with better graphics and a couple more AI-racers.

Too bad you missed the Steam holday sale as they had Race07 on sale for only $4.99 and it's quuite good. If you want a racing game that has tons of mods, and I mean tons then get rFactor. You can buy it online or at Walmart. http://www.rfactor.net/

Others I recommend.

Race07+Evolution = GTR Evolution http://store.steampowered.com/app/8660/

GTR2 http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/gtr2/index.html

Live For Speed (online purchse only) http://www.lfs.net/

Try the NetkarPro demo http://www.netkar-pro.com/

For more arcade style racing Grid is the best available for the PC so far. http://store.steampowered.com/app/12750/

I haven't tried iRacing because it is subscription based online MP only but is touted as the most realistic of all racing sims. http://www.iracing.com/

Check out this youtube channel for lots of good info and video reviews of racing sims.

Never did buy 2003 and can't buy it any more so am still stuck with 2002 which has no widescreen support. :(

I know you haven't mentioned single player or multiplayer but one of the games I enjoyed playing was Trackmania Nations, a free online arcade style racing game. It's ok to kill some time

Just an FYI.....

I have seen Flatout 2 at Biglots for $6 (if you are from the US and have one near you...). The best place for bargain PC games IMHO. I think I saw DIRT there a long time ago...

Look up Live For Speed. It has a decent demo, so you'll at least be able to decide if you like it. (It's more of a racing sim)

Personally, I'm looking forward to Burnout Paradise. It comes out next month and I hope it's not an Epic Fail.

Klob's list is pretty good. I just wanted to add that I am an iRacing subscriber and I find that it is worth the cost. The online play system is a bit different than what many people are used to, but I find that it works very well. I've just been so busy I havn't had a chance to race for a couple months.

I just picked up GRID for $29 bucks on amazon, can't wait to try it out.

iRacing is the number one sim for the PC right now. LFS used to be, but I havent raced a lap in LFS since iRacing came out :)

Wow, they have Nascar cars too! I'm looking at their website. Where do I purchase iRacing?

edit: nevermind, looks like subscription based, like $20/month, kinda pricey.

a couple i have enjoyed are

Colin Mcrae 2005 and Dirt

they are pretty arcadey but fun (CM2005 i like more th an DIRT)

another one to look at that is suppose to be a little more realistic is

Richard Burns Rally

its tough to find but worth it.

I'm looking forward to it as well. That game is gonna look sick on 1680X1050, but I need to get a 360 controller. The online is gonna be much better on PC.

Live for Speed is my favourite. I tried iracing for a while and enjoyed it but it got a bit dull after a while. I find racing in lfs more exciting.

The PURE demo takes a looooooong time to load. But a friend of mine told me it's 'cause there's some kind of problem if v-sync is enabled. I went into nvidia's control panel and disabled v-sync specifically for PURE. It helped on one of the load screens, but on the other(s) it didn't. I think there's like 3 load screens.

I'd say GRiD, Flatout and Track Mania if you like racing and race/puzzle games. Lots of fun. :)

Why are there no Gran Turismo/Forza style games for the PC? Could you imagine what GT would be like on the PC? Or Forza 2?

I too am looking for a game that allows me to drive real world cars on real world tracks. I played Forza 2 alot, and really wish I could find something like it for the PC...

I'm playing GRID right now, and as much fun as it is, there's no tuning involved...

DIRT and GRID. Codemasters rocks at PC racing games, both of these are excellent.

Then you want rFactor. Tons more car types and tracks than either Gran Turismo or Forza. Real world tracks and fantasy tracks. Only thing it requires a bit of effort on the users part to download the mods and install them. Take a look at this web site to see just how many different mods there are available for rFactor. You can download cars that are more forgiving and easier to drive or you can go for all out realism with and a high degree of difficulty to drive.
