Ok, so MGS 4 is coming out next week. I really want to play it, but I'm not sure if I can justify buying a PS3 just for that game.

What other games (PS3 exclusive) would make it worth it? I already have a 360 and wii, and a computer capable of playing any game.

The Blue-Ray playback is a bonus, though I don't have an HDTV (I have been using my 360 with my monitor, though I don't think the PS3 has any VGA cable).

Thoughts?

Like Stang22gt mentioned, Unchartered is great. Possibly the best game that came out all of last year on ANY system. Ratchet and Clank also makes that short list, too. Those two games are better than anything the Wii has gotten to date.
Depending on what kind of games you like, there's always Heavenly Sword, Tekken Online, Motorstorm, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma if you've never played NG:Black.
Even though it was a launch game, Resistance also got rave reviews and was a pretty cool shooter by any standards.
Even though you have a 360, there are cases when the PS3 version of a game can be better (and vice versa) like with GTA or Devil May Cry. It's sometimes just nice to have a choice.

What are the differences for GTA on the PS3 vs the x360? I haven't played Devil May Cry, but might look into it.

Ok, so this is what I've come up with to get a ps3 to my monitor:

PS3 HDMI -> HDMI to DVI cable -> 22" Wide display (HDCP comp)

From what I've read, this should work.

Hmm... maybe I'll be giving BestBuy a visit tonight...

Reasons to Buy a PS3:

1. Solid Piece of Hardware

2. Blu-Ray

3. PSN Network is still free [I do suspect that this might change some day, but it's free right now]

4. Decent Exclusives Down The Pipe

5. More Multi-platform titles on the way

6. HD is easily replaceable

7. Sony has been pretty quick to release updates to the console recently

Differences between GTA 360 and PS3 [I own the 360 version]:

1. PS3 requires a mandatory install which reduces load-times; I find the difference to be slight, others more significant

2. PS3 versions of GTA 4 have suffered lock up in SP and MP. A few patches have been released but I do not know if this is still a common issue.

3. 360 version has confirmed exclusive DLC coming in Q1 2009 [November-January]. Nothing has been announced for the PS3 at this time.

4. With the 360 version you can stream your own music in-game [a plus for me when I get tired of the radio stations; might be moot for some]

5. Graphics wise the games are almost identical - some give the nod to the PS3 version; others to the 360 version. 360 runs at 720p and the PS3 runs at a lower res, but supposedly the post-processing on the PS3 is more attractive to some. Beyond 3D did a comparison and finds that the 360 GTA 4 runs at a slightly faster rate, by a few frames here and there.

6. PS3 version has less "pop-in." Not a big deal to me on the 360 version, but opinions differ here.

DMC4 is a fun game - tight controls, decent combat, great presentation. Just don't pay retail for the game. It's a rental at best - I'd play through the game once or twice and that's it. I own both consoles but I bought [and later sold] it for the PS3 version because I thought the Sixaxis/Dualshock controller was more natural for this game [I didn't like using the bumper for the 360 version] for the Devil Bringer.

To me Warhawk, MGS4 and LittleBigPlanet are the top tier games I want to play:

If you want it enough... you shouldn't need any other reasons. Buy it. If you don't then you'll likely feel bad about buying it anyway so you might as well wait for more games that you're after.

Or rent a PS3 for a couple of days so you can finish the game. ;)

Here's another thumbs up for Warhawk... I got the game thru the PS store for $29.99 on sale and have easily put a couple hundred hours into the game. I should note that it's multiplayer only so if you don't have an internet connection, I wouldn't bother. Uncharted is also a great game but its a bit short. The story is deep compared to most games, the graphics are amazing, and I'd say its got decent amount of re-playability.

To be honest, I spend most of my time playing the small $10 games from the store like PixelJunk Monsters, Echochrome, Super Stardust HD, etc. Yesterday's update (today technically) introduced two more $10 games which look to be popular as well. And even though you may not have a use for bluray right now, you might in the future.

In the end, whether the purchase is justifiable is up to you. I was in a similar position back in January but bought the system anyways... and I absolutely love it. No problems so far (fingers crossed).

Download version of Tekken5 on PS3 is a must have if you like fighting games.

I'll probably get one when God of War 3 comes out, but until then nothing intrigues me that much.

I bought a PS3 for a few reasons.

Games: GoW III, MGS 4, FF XIII, Grand Turismo (even though I won't buy it now), Uncharted

Hardware: Reliability. Everyone I know w/360 has had their 360 red ring (4 or 5 systems)

Exclusives: Similar to games, but IMO, Sony has better exclusives. I think Halo is for fags, and Gears of War is close to that. And in the extremely rare even that I would want to play a 360 exclusive, the chances of it coming to PC are very good, considering most exclusives are Microsoft. I know some are not but most are.

Future: Of the 2, the PS3 will eventually sell more units and get the most exclusives once companies realize that worldwide, as of now, it's only about 4 million behind 360. It doesn't seem like it in the US becuase more have 360 but in Japan and in Europe, more people own PS3 than 360 so eventually companies will feel comfortable to make more ps3 exclusives.

MGS4 alone is enough reason to buy the PS3, reliability, blu-ray, and upcoming exclusives are just added bonuses.

Well yeah - this is a message board. Pretty much everything short of a news post is opinion.

Going by majority opinion, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Mario Galaxy are better.

PS3 HDMI -> HDMI to DVI cable -> 22" Wide display (HDCP comp)

http://www.gameyeeeah.com/wii-ps3-vga-cable-p-746.html Also might be an option. It's a solution much closer to what you're used to.

I'm not sure how sound would work with the DVI adapter solution. I know it's a major issue if I tried to do HDMI -> DVI with sound on the 360 (it involves hacking apart the component cable since it covers the HDMI port; GOOD FUCKING GOING MS, GREAT FUCKING DESIGN ONCE AGAIN). The nice thing about MS' $40 VGA adapter and this PS3 one is that the audio cables are already built in.

All in all it really makes me want to get a new monitor with HDMI already built in. This 22" Dell has treated me well for so long though.

On a more general note... I've seen people ask for more help and advice buying a $400 console than a $30,000 car. If you want it, get it. If you can't afford it... wait for a price drop or save up some more money.

If you don't like it after you get it... sell it.

Until last week, I didn't find one game I wanted to buy on the ps3 in the half year that I owned it. The two really good console exclusive ones mentioned earlier by Domingo I'm sure I'll rent someday.

The game is called Singstar. If you like singing even remotely, you have to check out the features it offers, not to mention the library of songs.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/875/875598p1.html

Their online features are pretty damn impressive as well. You can upload 30 second clips of your songs, or even the complete audio of your song to your PSN profile. I must've spent an hour last night with my friends browsing through random people's videos and pictures. It's an absolute riot. Definitely get the PS3 eye toy with this game.

I'd never buy a 400 dollar machine for one game, but the ps3 is a sweet piece of hardware that had a shaky software start and has a solid library now that'll only get better.

It does get tiring after a while doesn't it?

You can only read so many of: Should I buy this? Which should I buy? Going to buy in the next 24 hours help me decide! Bought this and now I regret it!

Blu ray? Well that is my reason for just purchasing one and plus the $100 Walmart deal was a incentive :p I do plan on getting Metal Gear on Thursday, and then once I beat that start adding onto my game library. Going to pick up Resistance, Ratchet, and Soul Caliber for sure and most likely also start adding random games here and there.

Sounds like a 360 fanboi that has converted but don't want to admit it to his friends ;)

Moronic fanboys see everything with fanboy glasses. I play my wii maybe 1 hour a month, my 360 maybe 3-4 hours a week, and have no time for other consoles. If and when I do, and if there are 10ish games I'd like to play, I'll consider buying one.

God, you compliment the hardware, and the blind fanboys come out of the woodwork.

I like my PS3 because I can throw any PS1 games into it, and stream them to my PSP. Before I got my PSP, I hadn't played a single PS1 game on the PS3.

Otherwise it folds most of the time, or plays GTAIV

Limed for truth ;)

Just wondering but how good does PS1 games look when upscaled by PS3 ?

I have those little nice gems known as FF VII and FF VIII waiting for me but they really look ugly when played on HD ready TV through PS2 :)

Yo, if you're going to buy one from Best Buy, make sure they match the $100 Gift Card for Blu-Ray's, as that's Wal-Mart's promotion.

Now there was another thread on there that said Walmart was even selling the MGS4 edition and the $100 GC for Blu-Ray movies as well.

I would get it from Walmart if I was you, as they have announced dropping prices on several Blu-Ray titles to $15, so you can get more for your money.

i almost jumped on that deal, then realized that the ps3 only comes with the sixxaxis controller, and not the new dual shock controller.

any idea when the dual shock will be bundled instead?

Never?

Well, keep waiting then, or just buy an extra one. It probably won't happen for a long time is my guess.

I'll buy the SIXAXIS one off you for half the price of the Dual Shock :D

Its bundled in the MGS4 80 PS3 bundle. As for the normal 40gigs, no one has any idea when they are going to put it in there. Probably after all the MGS4 bundles sell out since is rumored these are the last 80 gigs in there inventory.

Here's my list of reasons to get a PS3:

1.) It's a pretty sweet bluray player.
2.)http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/835563/ - $499 for the 80gb. $100 gift card. $100 cash back if you open a sony card.
3.) Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 4 (or 5 prelude), Warhawk, Burnout Paradise, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Ratchet and Clank, Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, Final Fantasy XIII, the new twisted metal game, Soul Caliber 4
4.) The ability to play ps2 games on the 80gb model.

The only "fags" I see are those who call others fags just because they like games on a system you don't own.
