I know I'm a bit late to the game, but all of the sudden I got the Blue Ray bug and want to build a system to record and play BD movies. I will not invest in tuner just yet since I don't have a set top box. Just movies for now.

Any suggestions for improving the wish list?

Unless you must order from newegg for cables, check out monoprice for your HDMI needs. Also, what case will you be picking up for this build, any thoughts yet? I might suggest you take a look at Antec.

looks good, the 780g is good but apparently if you have a monitor that will do 24hz the nviidia 8300 igp series is better..... both are great

I picked up an Antec Three Hundred. I'm doing a little modding to it now. :)

My LCD monitor is the BenQ V2400W. It's specs are...

Vertical frequency [Hz]: 55 - 76
Max. horizontal frequency/ video bandwidth [kHz/MHz]: 31 - 81 / 25 - 135

I don't think it will do 1080p24.

Don't forget that NV's chipset supports LCPM audio too.

I'll look into this, but it's not a requirement, ATM.

Thanks for input, I pulled the trigger on this setup...

Asus M3N78-EM Nvidia GeForce 8300
AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz
Corsair 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 TWIN2X4096-6400C5
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB
LG Blu-ray GGC-H20LK

Should be here by Thursday!

I have been busy so I'm just getting around to setting everything up. All went together like charm. Now just need to figure out how to play those Bloorays. ;) And find a case.

do the 8300's handle 7.1 LCPM over HDMI? Or was it just the 9300 for intel did that?

Think of the 9000 series as Intel's version of the AMD 8000 series with some improvements. Yes, the 8000 series does LCPM.
