I'm about to purchase a large external hard drive to use for storing media, including tv shows and movies. The hard drive will be used on several different machines, including Windows 7, Snow Leopard, and most likely Ubuntu.

What file system do you all recommend using to have write support under at least Windows and OSX? Fat32 clearly has great support from any operating system, but there are going to be full length high def movies that are far too large for Fat32 (some files being 10+gb in size). NTFS doesn't have great support in Snow Leopard (I've tried the fstab.hd hack, and NTFS write support is disabled by default for a reason in OSX... it's reaaaally unreliable.)

I really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Your choices are FAT32 or use NTFS and have read-only access in Mac. That's it.

ext3? I'm pretty sure its well supported by 3rd party programs for OS X now, and its a damned fine file system....

I use it myself for my giant network share, highly recommended
