I have an old voodoo 3 2000 that has a decent amount of what looks like old dried up nasty thermal adhesive on the gpu itself, because i managed to get the heatsink off, as it wasnt even close to adequate (i got the card second hand for almost nothing).

My question is, whats the best thing for removing something like this.

there are pics, sorry for the bad quality, my phone was the best thing i had because my nikon d40 is screwed up

I always used 91% rubbing alcohol. Got all the gunk off my old hardware when I was redoing the thermal grease. Just grab some Q-tips and dip them in the rubbing alcohol and it should come off pretty easy, and the alcohol dries up fast so no wet stuff to worry about.

Alcohol is fine to remove grease but probably won't touch that stuff. I've never had a 3dfx heatsink off myself, but it's probably a hard adhesive, like a thermal epoxy which alcohol won't even soften, much less remove.

Yeah, its totally hard and dry, and ive tried alcohol, ill try my luck with a razorblade, lets hope i still have all my fingers afterward haha

That was easier than expected, i guess razor blades really do come in handy haha.

Thanks :D

as an added bonus, i kept all my fingers, yay

Gratz on the fingers, blood makes for a terrible thermal compound :p .... Or does it??? *makes note to ask for a few drops of blood in the next thermal compound shootout:eek:.

Blood would conduct electricity wouldnt it ? and i think itd dry up much too fast to do any good XD
