Rootkits and Partitions?

I have a question that I have been wondering for some time concerning rootkits. If I have an infected computer that I am going to reimage, if I boot from to an Ubunu LiveCD and then delete all partitions using GPParted will this remove the infected rootkit partition or is this the infected partition not generally visible in this utility?

This is just hypothetical and I am rather curious to know the answer.

In the vast majority of cases, yes. Even just reinstalling the OS clean will rid you of most root kits.
