Bought one today. Returned my 226BW and got this - the panel I got is labeled as "S." The picture quality is superior to the 226bw.
 
i'd love a 24" lcd but it just doesn't make cost sense when compared to the 22"

22" cost per inch

$250 bucks for a 22" = $11.36 an inch
$500 bucks for a 24"= $20.83 an inch


It's nearly twice as expensive per inch!

But a 22'' has the same resolution as a 20'', whats the point? A 22'' is a waste too. At least 24'' is a real upgrade in pixels, not just useless inches.

You can't equate the difference like that.

Going to the higher res is huge.

I went from a Gateway FPD2185W to a Dell 2407 and it was the best $600 and change I ever spent.

1920x1200 FTW.
 
this samsung use a TN panel ?

I agree i just got a LG 24inch last week at bestbuy for 650 has hdmi input
and it was the best upgrade next to getting a 8800GTS
with 24inch monitors you gotta upgrade your videocard which makes it expenesive all together
 
I was thinking of picking one of these up, theres a 12% off coupon for reward zone which makes this 448.79 before taxes.

I've just still got my acer 22" lcd and no way to sell it :(

Its either 1680x1050 on a 20" WS or 1900x1200 on the 24"... both look much better than the 22" (I have the 205bw as well).

Ya, some would consider it comparing apples to oranges especially when the 24" 245BW has a higher 1900x1200 rez.
 
I think math using total square inches is more appropriate, at least for the customers' subjective part. In addition, you have the scaling of price due to the premium-ness of the item (being the less-common 24") and a few other factors, like inventory levels of such a new product.

That price has to come down... there's no way that a TN panel without all the usual 24" premium features should be $500.

$400, maybe, in 2 months?

i agree, use total square inches if you are going to try to discuss cost per inch. There is only a 2" change in one measurement, but overall it is going to be more than 2 square inches, so going by actual area comparisons would have worked out better when comparing price per inch.

and like others have said, that price per inch difference doesn't include the resolution gain and other benefits you will get with the 24".

This brings you to another cost to achieve quality performance for those huge bastards..... you need another $200+ for a reasonable video card.

.... keepin my 17" Viewsonic VX700 LCD (25ms ftw) ;) ... I don't notice ghosting... really.

did you mean to say, "you need another +$200 for a reasonable video card that can operate at that resolution in games"? :)

Won't notice much difference between a 22" and a 24" unless they are sitting side by side.
 
IMO, the 1680x1050 is more beneficial to the consumer, its high res, a lil under 2 megapixels, and It doesnt require 2 top notch GPU's to run it. There is no reason to spend over twice the cost on 2 inches of screen space, then have to upgrade your GPU just to keep it steady. 1920x1200 is great, but is spending twice as much on the display plus other hardware really worth it? 2 inches?

Not true for me, coming from the 22" - I'm really enjoying 1900x1200 in games b/c it feels much larger. Its great.

THE deal right now IS the 22" market, I can't argue there (to those saying $500 is too much for a 24" TN panel).

Still lovin the 245bw, though :D
 
As it turns out, with this deal and the kickass 22" deal from Memorial day the difference is.....

11.75"x18.75" = 220.3~ sq/in for 22"
12.75"x20.25"=258.1~ sq/in for 24"

Sooooo....
22" = $200/220.3 = $0.91 per sq/in and
24" = $500/258.1 = $1.94 per sq/in



OR for pixels (i need sleep..)

1680 x 1050 = 1,764,000pix for 22"
1920 x 1200 = 2,304,000pix for 24"

SO00oo...
22" = $200/1,764,000 = $1.1337(LEET!!)868 e-4 per pix and
24" = $500/2,304,000 = $2.17013888888888 e-4 per pix

In conclusion,









what were we talking about again???
 
Doesn't sound overpriced to me. If I had the extra funds I'd get it right away.

I have a 19" CRT flat screen Dell Trinitron which I love (hell I got it for free at from a co-worker, why wouldn't I) and it can handle up to 1600x1200 in games no problem. But its a pain in the butt to configure sometimes.

And also I've played with a few 22" and 24" monitors before and the step up is well worth the extra price. Like these guys say you get a much better resolution and it can make all the difference in the world.
 
that coupon does not work for monitors. At least not usually, I've argued with them, demanded to see a manager, threatened not to buy and it worked once. I've done the same thing a couple other times and it didn't work. The coupon excludes computer monitors on purpose so they really don't have to sell it to you.
