My friend has a computer that uses a SATA hard drive.

This is the first time using (or fixing) computers that have that kind of connection, so I'm a bit worried as to what connections it uses.

Do they have 2 connectors (one for the power and one for the data)? Can I use the "IDE power connector" to power it?
(sorry for the loose descriptions, as I'm kinda new to these kinds of hard drives).

SATA has 2 connections like an IDE
power and data
the sata power connection is different from the normal 4 pin molex connectors
it is a tiny bit wider and is thinner
it also has crappy retention by comparison

The sata cable is similer
It is about 3/4" wide and very thin
most of them are Red
one end plugs into the HD the onther into the controller
either on the MOBO or on a PCI card

it also (generaly) has crappy retention compared to a IDE cable

some of the newer more expensive sata cables use a small hook and hold on very very well

Do you have a picture of it?

I don't think I can picture it, nor I can't find it on my PSU connections (do all PSUs have those connectors?)

I just realized that my PSU doesn't have any SATA power connectors, so its useless trying to find it on the one I have right now.

Alot of current sata drives will have the molex connector also, i know all my WD's do, so you should be ok, just check the specs on teh drive.
