SATA III - is the Marvell 88SE9172 an improvement on the 88SE9128 controller?

by reputation it seems that Marvell 88SE9128 controller for SATA III is awful, and not even as good as Intel's SATA II controller. However there are now some motherboards available (some Gigabyte Z68) with a different Marvell controller, the 88SE9172.

is this new 88SE9172 a worthy alternative to Intel's controllers? or at least better than SATA II?
