Can somebody direct me to info on this subject?
ie which processors have it, what does it consist of, etc
checked at AMD but didn't get to far and am currently experiencing connection probs

security? there's not much security implemented at the hardware level on most cpu's...in AMD's chips the only real thing that comes to mind is the NX-bit that helps prevent buffer overflow attacks.

Some other cpu's, like many of VIA's low-power cpus, have hardware crypto engines that can be used for various enryption schemes (like secure data storage on disks, or encrypted passwords).

Thought there was more than just the overflow bit (excuse the pun), along the lines of networking. Maybe something I mixed up one of bleary eyed late nights.

The via encryption sounds interesting though. Have to protect those top secret files ;-). Of use to some perhaps.

I think the real reason for via's hardware engine is that they are fairly weak cpus and doing software encryption is probably pretty slow...hardware encryption probably is designed to make them do it at an acceptable speed. Not sure, though.

That makes sense, EvaUnit; got the page! If anyone is interested
