The business I work for has a Windows 2000 server that is acting as their Active Directory and DHCP server. They are having problems logging into the domain because they are not pointed to the server as their DNS.

On the server, there is no "." entry in the forward lookup zone, and I have added the ISP's DNSs into the forwarding. When I point the workstations and the server to the server as their DNS it is not following the forwarding and I am unable to access the internet.

I have rebooted the server and ran the netdiag /fix command (as per a page I found by googling) but have made no headway.

Any ideas?

Is the server looking at itself as the one and only DNS?
Have you setup DNS forwarding on the server?
Can you expand forward lookup zones under the DNS service and see population?
How does event viewer look?

-The server is pointed to itself for it's DNS.
-I have two entries in the DNS forwarders tab, they are the ISP's DNS servers.
-Expanding the forward lookup zone shows 'nuteltech.com' which is our company's domain.
-In the event viewer, under DNS I do not have any errors, just startup messages. Under the System Log, I have a few DHCP entries that all say "The DHCP service has cleaned up the database for multicast IP addresses"
Nothing else is obviously wrong in the log.

When I telnet the server it does connect, but I get a blank screen.

That's expected. Can you telnet to your ISP's DNS servers using port 53?
Can any workstations resolve the servers name? Does it return the correct IP?
