Shortage on laptop HDDs? Why so expensive!?

Last year around this time I picked up a WD 500gb laptop hdd for about 50 bucks or so. 320's were around 40... why are they all over 100 dollars? Also, where did all the selections go? I checked ncix and newegg... even looked on fleabay. I was just trying to help a friend out on upgrading his ps3 hdd.

I wonder if there is a world wide shortage or maybe they are trying to steer us into the evil world of even more expensive solid state!??

We need a sticky on this I think. Or just sticky the lengthy thread relating to this topic.
 
I wonder how long it will take before they start coming back in stock and prices drop. I'll hold out. No hurry here.
