Should I upgrade 2GB to 4GB memory?

In course of solving a problem with new RAM sticks I've ran simplest tests comparing the difference of 2GB memory vs 4GB, and since I've got some neat graphs, why not share it, in case anybody is contemplating "upgrade" (you can optionally remove quotation marks as you interpret the graphs:)). Machine is two years old [email protected] on Asus P5K with DDR2 800MHz memory bus along with GeForce 8800GTS 320MB.

I couldn't get the pictures to work. Neither could I find Album in User CP.

Benchmarks don't tell the whole story imo... Having 4GB+ may not necessarily give you a straight boost in performance across everything, but it can make something like Alt+Tab'ing out of a game take 1/4th of the time, and of 'course it helps w/multi-tasking. With prices as they are these days, I don't see why you'd go w/any less than 4GB... I'm thinking of going to 8GB even tho this system is a lil' long in the tooth.

I went from 2gb to 4gb of ram recently and I won't go back. I've noticed a nice overall speed increase in the system. Like stated earlier, the ram is very cheap so going to 4gb is almost a must.

2GB to 4GB is a worthwhile upgrade yes. Windows will run faster with the extra headroom.

Looks like you're running XP. I'm not ripping on XP, but it's not going to be as well-utilized (RAM) as compared to Vista or 7.

Yep. Earlier this year I even added 2 GB to 4 GB into my old back-up PC with P4 3.2G. My main PC with Q6600 has 8 GB. I thought I would never need more than 4GB, but now with 8 GB, moving from one apps to another, opening games, multi-tasking is more seamless and smooth. Very worth the cost. If you look around, you can get some very cheap RAM.

While I can see the reasons behind going for 4GB in Vista and Windows 7, I'm wonder if there's any advantage of 4GB vs 2GB when running WHS. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't 2GB be plenty for WHS?

Was thinking of going with Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit for my WHS box. Would one kit would be sufficient, or should I get two?

Check my ageing rig in my sig. Is it worth perhaps upgradeing to 8GB instead of just 4GB or should I simply upgrade my mobo/cpu sooner and get DDR3 when I do so.
