Upgrade my system?

Current:
P4 3.0C
Asus p4c800 Deluxe
1Gig Kingston HyperX 3500 DDR
Radeon 9800 Pro
Hitachi 160GBx2 Raid 0
Antec Case/430W TruePower
19" Trinitron

Want:
X2 4400+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2GB Corsair? or 2GB OCZ? or? Would like to trim a few bucks here
BFG 7800GTX <---just one for now
Better PSU - maybe a Antec 500w or UltraX 500w - prefer a modular PSU
Will use the HDDs, case and monitor

BF2 isn't too great on my current setup - any extra options lag it down. With Oblivion and others on the horizon, it will only get worse.

Hard to believe my system is already two years old. :)

I say no. I have the same basic system:

Current: (MY current)
P4 3.0C (2.8C OC to 3.2)
Asus p4c800 Deluxe (Abit IC7-G)
1Gig Kingston HyperX 3500 DDR (1GB Kinston Value)
Radeon 9800 Pro (Yep)
Hitachi 160GBx2 Raid 0 (Raptor 36 Raid 0)
Antec Case/430W TruePower (some Antec with Koolance Water Cool)
19" Trinitron (19" 3 year old LCD)

Considering I can play the last 3 "big dogs" Doom3/HL2/BF2 with NO problems on 1024x768 with some AA and what not I haven't really a need to upgrade. Your milage may vary.

I would get a different board such as the DFI. For RAM I would just get come crucial value RAM or soemthing. For the PSU nothing beats the Sparkle FSP550-60PLG for the price.

If you buy an Ultra you won't be getting a "better" PSU.

Good to know. Don't think this Sparkle has removeable plugs - or modular as someone told me. Is that right? I really want one that has removeable rails... isn't that what they're called?

OCZ seems to be one of the up and coming companies. Lot a good reviews on their stuff. Anyone disagree?

There's an Antec TruePower modular at Frys for $80 - just found out. Decisions decisions.

OCZ would be a better buy then Corsair. Especially if you decide to get a DFI.

Just upgrade the video card. Everything else is fine.

I've considered this and another gig of ram and call it quits at least until after Christmas. Would I see a significant boost with a 6800gt? Or would Ultra be better. It's AGP so - no SLI.

search for the "(B8)" section.

swap out the PSU with the Aerocool modular one in the "(6)" PSU section.

swap the mobo for the Asus or DFI SLI mobo in the "(4)" Mobo section.

And cut the stuff that I assume you don't need. Case, OS, speakers, mouse, keyboard, opticals, FDD, HDD.

O, and both of those things are bad buys. You are planning on OCing, but Corsiar ram sucks at that. Get Crucial Value or Mushkin SP (as indicated by the B5 build in the thread I specified). That "6800GT" is a VERY crippled version, with crappy clocks and normal DDR ram, not GDDR3 (DDR is worse are OCing too). It's also AGP and only 128mb.

Nice guide! I know that took some serious work! Thanks!

I honestly think Nassir has talked me out of the clouds, however. ;)

I clicked the wrong one. Was suppose to be the Aopen 256MB version not the Asus. Won't be overclocking so ram should do nicely and is on sale for $80.

Talked to some guys at work. I'm pretty sure this is my buy. Thanks for all the help guys. Yall talked some sense into me. :p

After Christmas, it's open season - oh yes!
