So I was in a mall on weds, and I got into EBgames and I notice Half Life 2 boxes on the shelf, "Pre-order now! Release April 1 2004!" I start laughing out loud, and the guy comes over and says "can I help you?" So I say, "Is this come kind of sick april fools day joke?" and he replies "uhh, it wasn't at first...."

So I work at differant mall, and today I went the EBgames in that mall to ask the same question. "Is that some kind of sick april fools day joke" and the answer there was "Yes, yes it is" and he laughed in my face. And I asked "Do you know the real release date" and he then replied "does anybody?"

And thats the story, and the question now is, does any body even know? I say we might not know until after E3 in may, but now EB is saying it ships on June 22, and so does Best Buy, but what do they know that we don't? :D

I'm starting to think that Half-Life 2 will never ship. In fact, after so many let downs I've pretty much given up caring. The damn thing was supposed to be out ages ago.

I just think its funny how, EB has these "release dates"

Like Doom III April 16th.... yea right
World of Warcraft June 11th, hows that when they are doing a 6 month beta test!

Its just funny.

No need for half life2, far cry has taken the "wow" from it. By the time the game hits, the graphics will be par with what else that is coming out. I really feel bad for them though.

Exactly, now that I have a game like Far cry, HL2 has started to seem pretty generic. Far cry has all the shaders, Physics and features Hl2 has shown me. Far by far cry deserves a game of the year title.

Well just understand that its not just the graphics that make HL2 a really awsome game. But I have played Far Cry, and i think that HL2 had something Fry Cry doesn't in terms of graphics. The physics alone in HL2 make any current game look stupid. Reactions in materials, like wood breaks at the point its shot hit and can continue to break up into smaller chunks, the fact that EVERYTHING is interactive and moveable. Anything is a potential weapon, out of ammo? throw a chair! Supreb AI, realistic lighting effects. If you havn't seen the E3 demo from last year you should, it makes far cry look like a blip on the map.

What Max Payne 2 are you playing, cause I got ripped of. Similar maybe. The same i don't think so.

After all the BS over the delays on Half Life 2 being released I won't buy it now just on principle. I say Boycott it completely!!

Alrighty Then! Doom III too?

And just for arguement sake, HL2 had only been delayed once, valve has never released an official date since the delay in September, all these other release dates are merely speculation.

Well just for fun I actually ordered D3 from Amazon (gift certificate) and I got a coupon for Hl2 with my videocard.... A long time ago... Think we have another DNF here?

I also am starting to think that they have taken too long with the development of these games, in terms of trying to incrementally improve their engines so that it will be "the best" when it comes out. By the time they think the game is ready to ship, we'll be on to something bigger and better. It would be nice to see ID and Valve pay a premium for trying to manipulate us like they have.

Just release the f@#n' game - don't talk about it for four years, and allow the image to eclipse the reality of it. The expectations for D3 are so high it will be a serious challenge for this game not to tank. I mean, it will sell plenty of copies, but will the game be any good? The bar is set pretty high. If I see these (unreleased) games again at E3 I will puke. Bastards.:)

100% agreed. i just dont give a shit anymore. and i probably wont even buy it now....

and to think, at one point i was extremely excited.

see folks this is what happens when you get all amped up for a GAME. you turn all negative on it then when it comes out you'll praise it.

Which is why you should get amped up on what's currently on the market.

But then again if people didn't, half the internet web sites would shut down and hardware retailers that depend on gamers constantly upgrading their system for the "next big thing" would go out of business.

Guess what, IT DOESNT MATTER. If I personally made a game that was millions of times better than HL2, hl2 would still do better. All you guys are doing is Hyping the game up so much just to be let down.

Companies shouldn't even give out release dates, that way you guys would have nothing to complain about...

Jesus, go like, watch some porn or something :p

I just recenlty read in PCGamer that the orginal Half Life is considered one of the most influental PC games ever, #3 I think. I believe that HL2 will surpass its presecssor, and prevail as one of the best games of all time. (watch out That was an OPINION)

Oh and in the June Issue of PCgamer, they will have a Hands On look of most recent bulid of HL2. (for those that care) :p

Geez, setting yourself up for disappointment. especially for a game with no release date and other games rapidly catching up.

HL was something new. I'm not sure what HL2 can do to bring anything new to the table in comparison to the original.

Ya talk about buying your own hope. I expect both DOOM3 and HL2 to provide exceptional experiances...but still...they're games, not oral sex with [insert woman of choice].

Most influential according to whom? The PC Gamer editors? Phhfft. Puleeze. First, it hasn't been out that long to have a lasting influence. Secondly, Is it influential? Certainly, but it's not like everyone at the IGDA meetings and discussion groups I go to where everyone is talking about Half-Life design. Truth be told, CS is the main reason and only because it uses the Half-Life engine. CS is *not* Half-Life. Time will tell if the influence that the original Half-Life had is going to be lasting or not.

I think most people saw that back in October. :p

Well this is differant, PCgamer is actually getting to play the game. Opposed to every other preview where they only got to look at screen shots a videos.
